A printing press makes an ink reservoir between an ink fountain and an ink fountain roller and supplies ink to the plate cylinder via a ductor roller advancing and retracting towards and from the ink fountain roller. The printing press is provided with the ink fountain, a base supporting the ink fountain, a slide mechanism sliding the ink fountain along the base in order to control the clearance between the tip of the ink fountain and the ink fountain roller, a cleaner removing the ink from the ink fountain roller, an advancement and retraction mechanism for advancing and retracting the cleaner between a contact position to the ink fountain roller and a non-contact position, and a controller. The controller controls the slide mechanism and the advancement and retraction mechanism, enlarges the clearance in order to pass the dirt with the ink through the clearance, and makes the cleaner in contact with the ink fountain roller to remove the dirt with the ink.

Roller arrangement, a method of forming a pattern, a method of printing a pattern and apparatus for printing a pattern

A roller arrangement for printing apparatus comprises a first roller. The first roller comprises a plurality of cells. Each of the plurality of cells receives an amount of a coating material. The roller arrangement further comprises an extractor to remove at least a portion of the coating material from a selected set of the plurality of the cells.

PATTERN-FREE ANILOX INKING SYSTEM AND METHOD

In a digital inking system having an anilox member that carries a patterned metered layer of ink to a digital imaging member, and a doctor blade that removes excess ink from the surface of the anilox member resulting in the patterned metered layer, an overfill form roller in rolling contact with the anilox member adds an overcoat layer of ink on the patterned metered layer for transfer of both layers of ink to the digital imaging member. The overcoat layer of ink uniformly covers all regions of the anilox member and the mattered metered layer of ink, including lands of the anilox cell walls to make the combined layers of ink pattern-free.

Correction values (1-n) according to image area ratios in ranges of a printing plate of a preceding print job corresponding to ink fountain keys (4-1-4-n) are obtained. Opening amounts (1b-nb) of the ink fountain keys (4-1-4-n) corresponding to the image of the printing plate (7) of a next print job are corrected by correction values (1-n) to obtain corrected opening amounts (1b-nb). In a state in which ink in an ink roller group (6) has been decreased by scraping and removing it by an ink scraper blade (15) and in a state in which the opening amounts of the ink fountain keys (4-1-4-n ) have been set to the corrected opening amounts (1b-nb), an ink film thickness distribution corresponding to the image of the printing plate of the next print job is formed on the ink roller group (6).

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RAPID PRESS CHANGEOVER WITH SENSED INK CHARACTERISTIC

A decorator press for printing on metal cans has a pump unit, a distribution head, a sensing device and a processing circuit. The pump unit comprises a plurality of inlet ports, a first inlet port configured to receive an ink of a first color from a first ink source and a second inlet port configured to receive an ink of a second color darker than the first color. The distribution head is coupled to the pump unit and configured to spread fluid received from the pump unit across zones of a print roller. The sensing device is coupled to the press and configured to sense a characteristic of fluid flowing out of the distribution head. The processing circuit is configured to receive the sensed characteristic, compare the sensed characteristic to a predetermined threshold, and to provide an indication to a display based on the comparison.
