Medium identification device, image forming apparatus, method of identifying medium, and computer program product

A medium identification device identifies a type of a recording medium used for image formation. The medium identification device includes: a two-dimensional image sensor that captures an image of the recording medium; and an identifying unit that obtains a glossiness evaluation value indicating glossiness of the recording medium, a surface roughness evaluation value indicating surface roughness of the recording medium, and a coloring evaluation value indicating coloring of the recording medium, using image data of a specular reflection region reflecting specular reflection light from the recording medium and image data of a diffused reflection region reflecting diffused reflection light from the recording medium, the regions being in the image of the recording medium, and identifies the type of the recording medium by combining determination using the glossiness evaluation value, determination using the surface roughness evaluation value, and determination using the coloring evaluation value.

PRINTER PRINTING SETS OF PRINT DATA IN ORDER WHICH DEPENDS ON MOUNTED MEDIUM TYPE

In a printer, a controller determines a type of print medium currently mounted in a mount portion, and acquires a first set of print data correlated with a first medium type and a second set of print data correlated with a second medium type. In a case that a print medium of the first medium type is mounted in the mount portion, a print portion prints a first print image based on the first set of print data, and thereafter prints a second print image based on the second set of print data. In a case that a print medium of the second medium type is mounted in the mount portion, the print portion prints the second print image based on the second set of print data, and thereafter prints the first print image based on the first set of print data.

PRINT CONDITION SETTING METHOD AND PRINT CONDITION SETTING SYSTEM

A print condition setting method for setting a print condition in a printer includes: an ink type learning step of executing machine learning of an ink type discriminator using physical property information of ink and an ink type identifier; a medium type learning step of executing machine learning of a medium type discriminator using characteristic information of a medium and medium type identification information; and a print condition setting step of setting the print condition according to an ink type discriminated by the ink type discriminator and a medium type discriminated by the medium type discriminator.

NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM STORING SET OF PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREATING A PLURALITY OF PRINT LABELS WITH PRINTING DEVICE

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium stores a set of program instructions including: (a) generating; (b) generating; (c) setting; and (d) displaying. The (a) generating generates a plurality of sets of print data corresponding to respective ones of a plurality of print labels used in an overlaid state. The (b) generating generates a plurality of sets of medium type information for respective ones of the plurality of print labels. Each medium type information indicates a type of a printing medium used for creating a corresponding print label. The (c) setting sets a layering order for the plurality of print labels. The (d) displaying displays a list of the plurality of sets of medium type information on a display. The plurality of sets of medium type information is arranged in the layering order for the plurality of print labels corresponding to respective ones of the plurality of sets of medium type information.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium stores computer-readable instructions for a terminal device including a processor. The computer-readable instructions, when executed by the processor, causes the terminal device to perform: generating a plurality of sets of label data for creating a plurality of print labels, each set of label data including print data and attribute specification information; acquiring a plurality of sets of medium type information for a plurality of printing devices, each set of medium type information indicating a type of a printing medium mounted in the corresponding printing device; determining a plurality of output destinations for the plurality of sets of print data from among the plurality of printing devices on the basis of the plurality of sets of label data and the plurality of sets of medium type information; and transmitting each of the plurality of sets of print data to the corresponding output destination.

IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An image forming apparatus includes a memory and a controller. The memory is configured to store information related to a recording medium type detected by a detector in the past. The controller is configured to control a feeder so as to prevent feeding of a recording medium from starting, when a printing operation is started in a first mode, in a case that a recording medium type set through a setting unit and a recording medium type discriminated based on the information stored in the memory do not match with each other.

Determination apparatus for determining type of recording medium and image forming apparatus using the same

An apparatus for determining a type of a recording medium is provided. A detection unit detects a characteristic value indicating a physical characteristic of a recording medium. A measurement unit measures a moisture content correlated with a moisture content of the recording medium. A determination unit determines the type of the recording medium based on the moisture content and the characteristic value. The determination unit may correct the characteristic value using the moisture content or correct a rule for determining the type of the recording medium using the moisture content unit, and determines the type of the recording medium in accordance with the corrected characteristic value or the corrected rule.

A printing apparatus to communicate with a terminal apparatus, includes a storing unit, an acquiring unit, a receiving unit, and a printing unit. The storing unit stores information for specifying first paper types selectable in the terminal apparatus. The terminal apparatus acquires the information from the printing apparatus and displays the first paper types as selection candidate paper types. The acquiring unit acquires a second paper type. The receiving unit receives a first paper type from the first paper types for printing of an image. The printing unit prints the image where the first paper type corresponding to second paper types is received and any of the second paper types corresponding to the first paper type is acquired, and does not print the image where the first paper type corresponding to second paper types is received and another second paper type different from the second paper types is acquired.
