Media processing device with enhanced media and ribbon loading and unloading features
An example disclosed printer includes a base; a lid hingedly attached to the base movable between a closed position in which the lid is secured to the base, and an open position in which the lid is at least partially separated from the base; a cavity defined between the lid and the base, wherein the cavity is inaccessible when the lid is in the closed position and the cavity is accessible when the lid is in the open position; a ribbon positioning assembly disposed within the cavity that is pivotably attached to at least one of the lid or the base wherein the ribbon positioning assembly is configured to move between a printing position when the lid is in the closed position, and an accessible position when the lid is in the open position, wherein the ribbon positioning assembly comprises a ribbon tensioning mechanism.
Leader film on a ribbon supply roll
A ribbon supply includes a supply spool and a ribbon material wound onto the supply spool. A tack down bond prevents unwinding of the ribbon material from the supply spool. A leader film extends from the tack down bond, with the leader film having a length that is sufficient to allow installation of the ribbon supply and connection of the leader film to a take-up spool without detaching the tack down bond.
TAPE SUPPORT ARRANGEMENT
A tape support arrangement comprises a tape take up core (220) suitable for supporting a tape; and a tape supply core (210) suitable for supporting a tape (230). The supply core (210) comprises an inner surface (212), the inner surface defining an internal volume (240) of the supply core and being configured for engagement with a tape drive support. The take up core (220) is sized and shaped such that it can be located in the internal volume (240) of the supply core (210). Refer to
PRINTER DRIVE MECHANISM
Methods, apparatuses, systems, computing devices, and/or the like are provided. An example method may include a printer assembly. An example printer assembly may include a printer ribbon drive mechanism. An example printer drive mechanism may include a drive wheel, a connector, a spring, and an actuator. An example actuator may be configured to translate from a first axial position to a second axial position. An example spring may be configured to apply a greater force when an actuator is disposed in the first axial position than when the actuator is disposed in the second axial position. The example method may also include a motor to apply a torque to a drive wheel.
MEDIA REPLACEMENT PROCESS FOR THERMAL PRINTERS
The present invention embraces a method and apparatus for improving ribbon replacement for thermal printers. The present invention also applies to replacement of other media in associated printers. The improvement is achieved based a ribbon adapter or media adapter that is designed for two conditions: 1) catch condition for printing, and 2) release condition for replacing the media in the printer. By a single click or press of a button, a user can switch between the two conditions. The printing operation occurs during the catch condition. The catch condition ensures that there is no or little relative movement between media core and media adapter. The media adapter can also support different diameter media cores. The release condition is implemented when the user replaces media. The release condition can provide a relatively easy replacement of a media without a significant force or pressure.
Spindle supported near field communication device
Systems, devices, and related methods for shaping near field interrogation signals are discussed herein. An example spindle supported near field communication (NFC) device includes a spindle configured to mount to a mounting surface, the spindle having an axis of rotation; a beam shaping NFC device including: a ferromagnetic core portion coaxial with the spindle; a coil disposed around the core portion, the coil to generate a near field interrogation signal; a first ferromagnetic flange portion to direct the near field interrogation signal in directions extending radially from the axis and to restrict the near field interrogation signal from extending in a first axial direction associated with the axis; and a second ferromagnetic flange portion to direct the near field interrogation signal in the directions extending radially from the axis and to restrict the near field interrogation signal from extending in a second axial direction associated with the axis.
Ink ribbon cassette and printing apparatus
In an ink ribbon cassette, a case housing an ink ribbon wound around a supply-side bobbin and the ink ribbon wound around a wind-up side bobbin includes a case main body including a cylindrical supply-side case portion to house the ink ribbon wound around the supply-side bobbin and a cylindrical wind-up side case portion to house the ink ribbon wound around the wind-up side bobbin and a cover to close one end of the cylindrically formed supply-side case portion and one end of the cylindrically formed wind-up side case portion. The cover is removably attached to the case main body.
Media processing device with enhanced media and ribbon loading and unloading features
A described example includes a ribbon cartridge having a first spool housing to receive a first spool. The ribbon cartridge further having a second spool housing to receive a second spool. The ribbon cartridge further having at least one frame member extending between the first spool housing and the second spool housing and a spool lock, wherein the spool lock is configured to engage at least one of the first spool or the second spool in response to the ribbon cartridge not being received within a ribbon positioning assembly.
RIBBON SPOOL LOCKING APPARATUS
An example disclosure printer includes a base assembly, a lid pivotably attached to the base assembly, and a ribbon frame pivotably connected to the base. The ribbon frame is configured to receive at least one ribbon spool; a ribbon locker configured to interact with the ribbon spool via a spool gear assembly, the ribbon locker comprising: a biasing element to maintain a biasing force on the ribbon locker in a first direction, a first pawl, a second pawl, and a central pivot, wherein: when the ribbon locker is rotated by the actuator in the first direction, the first pawl is brought into contact with the spool gear assembly, and when the ribbon locking assembly is rotated in a second direction opposite the first direction, the second pawl is brought into contact with the spool gear assembly.
PRINTER APPARATUS
According to an embodiment, a printer apparatus includes a guide member that guides an ink ribbon and a print sheet nipped by a thermal head and a platen roller and guides only the ink ribbon after the printing towards the winding reel. The printer apparatus further includes a sheet-like elastic member attached to a surface of surfaces in contact with the ink ribbon of the guide member, the surface guiding only the ink ribbon after the printing towards the winding reel.
