It is the object of the present invention to provide a new polymer coating for low temperature plastics and plastic foams that allows for the application of disperse dyes in a sublimation process that preserves the original properties of the underlying plastic substrate. The composition includes an optically clear synthetic organic polymer base holding two layers, a first reflective layer supported by the low temperature plastic substrate that includes IR radiation reflecting additives, and a second layer supported by the first layer having light scattering particulate additives. The disperse dyes utilized in the invention may include additives to absorb IR radiation provided by an external IR source positioned above the disperse dyes causing the dyes to sublimate and diffuse quickly into the light scattering layer. The combination of these layers allows for diffusion of the disperse dye ink into the light scattering layer while protecting the low temperature plastic below.

Provided is a releasing member-integrated transfer sheet capable of improving both the conveyability on forming an image on a transfer layer and the transferability on transferring the transfer layer onto a transfer receiving article. A releasing member-integrated transfer sheet includes a releasing member including a first support and an adhesive layer provided on the first support, and a transfer sheet including a second support and a transfer layer provided on the second support, the transfer sheet being integrated with the releasing member such that the adhesive layer is opposed to the second support. The transfer layer is peelable from the second support, and the adhesive force between the second support and the adhesive layer is smaller than the adhesive force between the first support and the adhesive layer to thereby make the releasing member separable from the transfer sheet.

Thermal transfer sheet

A thermal transfer sheet includes a transfer layer on a substrate. The transfer layer has one or more layers. The critical shearing stress of the transfer layer is within the range of 0.9×10.sup.8 N/m.sup.2-2×10.sup.8 N/m.sup.2. The transfer layer has a release force of 7.5×10.sup.−2 N/cm or less, while the transfer layer is continuously transferred onto a transfer receiving article by use of a thermal printer under conditions including an applied energy of 0.127 mJ/dot and a conveying speed for the thermal transfer sheet of 84.6 mm/sec. The transfer layer transferred onto the transfer receiving article is released from the thermal transfer sheet at a release angle of 50°.

POLYMER BASED COMPOSITE SUITABLE FOR BOTH LASER MARKING AND PRINTING BY DYE DIFFUSION THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTING

A polymer based composite contains (a) a polyamide component, (b) a (co)-polyamide based on ether units and amide units, and (c) carbon black. It has been found that (1) the (co)-polyamide (b) offers sufficient absorbency for the printing ink, and (2) the selection of the polyamide component, the (co)-polyamide, and the amount of the carbon black result in both sufficient transparency and sufficient absorption centers for the laser energy. A moulded article can be made of the polymer based composite. A layered structure can be made containing at least one layer made of the polymer based composite and a security and/or valuable document containing the layered structure.
