Expert system and method for computing an application procedure for painting vinyl panels a target color at a paint application site while preventing vinyl warping. A target reflectivity indicator is computed for the vinyl panels once painted. When the target color and target reflectivity indicator are met by application of the multiple paint layers, the application procedure computed identifies a pigmentable waterborne paint composition, one or more proportioned paint pigments to achieve the target color at a predictable transmissivity and a preparatory waterborne paint composition considering a corresponding predictable reflectivity. Applying the pigmentable waterborne paint composition, once pigmented with the one or more proportioned paint pigments, over the preparatory waterborne paint composition meets the target reflectivity indicator for the vinyl panels at the target color. Instructions are then sent to a remote device comprising the application procedure for painting the vinyl panels at the target color while preventing vinyl warping.

Embodiments of a vending system are disclosed for delivering custom paints, permitting automated paint mixing and dispensing without the need for assistance. Customizable paint may be ordered locally or remotely, possibly with improved color matching that leverages color references to compare a known color with a color as observed within an image provided by the customer. Dimensional estimates of the surface to be painted may be possible using scale references within an image provided by the customer, to provide quantity suggestions. Common consumer products, having packaging of known color and dimensions, placed within the image provided by the customer may provide both color references and scale references. A preview function may replicate the image provided by the customer, but indicating the new paint color, as adjusted according to an analysis of one or more color references.

A color selection and display device includes a display, a user interface configured for receiving input data identifying a selected color, an orientation sensor configured to generate an orientation signal based on an orientation of the color selection and display device, and a memory storing a virtual paint chip arrangement. Relative locations of individual colors within the virtual paint chip arrangement correspond to a real world retail paint chip display. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, one or more machine learning models are trained to accurately estimate skin color in one or more images regardless of the lighting conditions. In some embodiments, the models can then be used to estimate a skin color in a new image, and that estimated skin color can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, the skin color may be used to generate a recommendation for a foundation shade that accurately matches the skin color, or a recommendation for another cosmetic product that is complimentary with the estimated skin color. Thus, the need for an in-person test of the product is eliminated.

An art color coordinating manufacturing method includes the acquiring of a principal color and then acquiring coordinating colors of the principal color. A design is selected and modified with the coordinating colors to define an output image such that the output image coordinates with the principal color. The output image is then printed to be used as an art piece.
