Offset tie rod joint
11254357 · 2022-02-22 ·

An apparatus and a method are provided for an offset tie rod joint for vehicle steering systems. The offset tie rod joint comprises a ball rotatably retained within a casing that is disposed in an opening of an offset housing. A threaded shank fixedly coupled with the offset housing is received by a steering rod. The opening is displaced from a longitudinal axis of the threaded shank by a distance that provides clearance between the offset housing and a spindle assembly during articulation of the spindle assembly during steering. A rear backstop and a front snap-ring in a groove retain the casing within the opening. A bore extending through the ball receives a bolt that fixates the ball between parallel prongs of the spindle assembly. A misalignment spacer on each side of the ball provides clearance for rotation of the ball within the offset housing.

WIDE ANGLE JOINT
20170292571 · 2017-10-12 ·

The present invention provides a wide angle joint including: a pair of yoke shafts mounted on opposite sides thereof to transmit power from the one side to the opposite side, each yoke shaft having a ball end portion provided on a first yoke part to which a spider is coupled; a plate having a large-diameter part formed in the middle thereof and protruding parts protruding from the large-diameter part in the opposite axial directions while being reduced in a radially inward direction, wherein the protruding parts have insertion recesses into which the ball end portions of the yoke shafts are inserted, and the large-diameter part is faulted to have different widths in radial directions from the central portion thereof; and a pair of coupling yokes, each of which has a second yoke part connected with the first yoke part through the spider and a support recess into which the large-diameter part of the plate is inserted.

Adjustable ball joint coupling

An apparatus is described for interconnecting a steering knuckle and lower suspension arm. The apparatus includes a ball joint assembly having a lateral adjustment feature that allows for increased range of adjustment.

BALL JOINT RELOCATION KIT FOR SUSPENSION LIFTED VEHICLES
20170282662 · 2017-10-05 ·

A ball joint relocation kit including a ball stud having a ball end, a threaded end, and a shaft with a straight outer diameter, and a sleeve having a tapered outer diameter and a straight inner diameter, wherein the sleeve is adapted to be received in a tapered hole through a steering knuckle from a bottom side, and the ball stud is adapted to be received through the tapered hole and the sleeve from the top side. The ball joint relocation kit can be used to replace an OEM ball stud to relocate the ball joint from below the steering knuckle to above the steering knuckle in suspension lifted vehicles.

LINK ROD FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE
20170276170 · 2017-09-28 ·

A link rod for a motor vehicle, with a connecting rod (4) designed with an open profile that extends in an axial direction (x), which comprises a back (8) and two opposed sidepieces (9, 10) which are connected to one another by the back (8), extending away from the back so as to enclose an angle (a) of less than 180° between them. Two joints (2, 3) are connected to one another by the connecting rod (4), each joint comprises a joint housing (5) and an inner joint component (6) that is fitted and able to move in the housing and extends outwardly therefrom. The connecting rod (4) is embedded, at its respective axial ends, in one of the joint housings (5), and the sidepieces (9, 10) enclose an angle (α) of at least 90° between them.

Boot For A Socket Assembly

The improved dust boot includes a dust boot body which is made as one integral piece of an elastomeric material and extends from a first end portion to a second end portion. The second end portion of the dust boot body includes a first sealing portion and a second sealing portion which is spaced from the first sealing portion. The first sealing portion includes a plurality of ribs that are spaced circumferentially from one another by a plurality of grooves and includes a plurality of relief valves that are located in the grooves and extend away from the first end portion for allowing a lubricant to pass the first sealing portion in one direction and for restricting the passage of contaminants past the sealing portion in an opposite direction.

Control Arm Socket Assembly
20170274932 · 2017-09-28 ·

The control arm assembly includes a control arm body and a socket assembly for connecting the control arm body with a vehicle frame. The socket assembly includes a housing with an inner bore which extends along a vertical axis between opposite open ends. A stud extends past the open ends and has an axially extending through passage. The stud has a pair of end portions on opposite sides of a ball portion that has a curved outer surface which is in sliding contact with a bearing surface for allowing the control arm body to pivot relative to the stud and the vehicle frame. The through passage is eccentrically located in a radial direction on the stud for translating the control arm body relative to the vehicle frame in response to rotation of the stud relative to the housing to adjust a camber angle of the wheel assembly.
