A method for effective vehicle identification and communication between riders of transportation network companies (TNC), and the vehicles that are being designated to the riders. Accordingly, a system used to execute the method of the present invention conveys the information of the rider on a display device on the designated vehicle of the rider, so as to notify the rider before getting into the designated vehicle. Additionally, the present invention also helps assist blind people by conveying audio messages, such as pipe messages or announcing their names. Further, the present invention provides riders the ability to send an emergency alert, thereby ensuring a safer ride. Furthermore, the present invention enables TNCs to utilize the display device as a trade dress and as an optional platform for other media advertisements.

A computer-implemented remote starting method includes instructing the remote start of a vehicle using a wireless device. The method also includes inputting, to the wireless device, a desired vehicle interior temperature. The method further includes sending a remote start instruction to a vehicle from the wireless device, including at least the desired temperature and monitoring a current temperature of the vehicle. The method additionally includes outputting, on the wireless device, the current vehicle temperature.

Systems and methods systems provide for client control over an Autonomous Vehicle (AV). The AV can determine sets of mechanical operations that it can take at a future time. The AV can determine a ranking for each of the sets of mechanical operations, including a first ranked set and at least one second ranked set. Client or user selection can be given a certain score, weight, or other value. The AV can apply the value to the second ranked set to determine an adjusted ranking. If the adjusted ranking outranks a ranking of the first ranked set, then the AV can expose the first ranked set and the second ranked set to a client interface. If the AV receives a selection of the second ranked set, the AV can perform that set of mechanical operations. Otherwise, the AV can perform the first ranked set of mechanical operations.

A system and method of executing a user-defined notification task, and wherein the method includes: receiving a user-defined notification task at the vehicle via one or more user interfaces, wherein the user-defined notification task specifies a trigger event and a notification action, the trigger event being selectable from the plurality of predefined trigger events via the one or more user interfaces, and the notification action being configurable via selection of one or more notification settings via the plurality of notification settings; in response to receiving the user-defined notification task at the vehicle, configuring one or more vehicle system modules to monitor for an occurrence of the trigger condition of the user-defined notification event; and in response to detecting the occurrence of the trigger event of the user-defined notification task, executing the notification action so that a vehicle user is notified of the occurrence of the trigger event.

A method for displaying a pointer in an instrument panel is described. The method comprises retrieving a current instrument status of an instrument of the instrument panel that is to be displayed, determining a pointer form on the basis of the current instrument status, retrieving of the determined pointer form from a texture atlas, and rendering the pointer in the instrument panel with the retrieved pointer form. There is further described a device for displaying an instrument panel, which device comprises a display module configured to display at least one instrument panel having at least one pointer instrument, and a controller configured to carry out the method using the display module. A vehicle having such a device is also disclosed.
