A safety-related signalling device for a motor vehicle including a light guide, a first light source capable of emitting a light beam that illuminates a lateral face of the light guide to allow the light beam to propagate in the light guide, and a reflective screen having a front face located at a distance and across from a rear face of the light guide. The light guide is translucent and light-coloured, and the reflective screen promotes diffuse reflection of the light from the light guide so as to homogenize and intensify, on a front face, the light emitted by the light guide.

An optical design of an outer lens of the IR illuminator is selected so that the outer lens forms a beam pattern for the output light from the IR light source, and also acts as a light guide for light emitted from a secondary visible light source, which is located in the same module as the IR light source, and which may be positioned on the same or a different printed circuit board as the IR light source. The material of outer lens is opalescent including scattering bodies. The optical design of the outer lens allows for improved field of view of the IR illuminator.

The controller activates the lamp assembly and the lamp assembly directs light to a ground area proximate to the second liftgate panel when the lower liftgate panel is in the opened position.

A method for correcting a light pattern provided by a first lighting device and a second lighting device. The first lighting device projects a first light pattern and the second lighting device projects a second light pattern. There is an overlapping zone between the first light pattern and the second light pattern. The method includes the steps of, for each lighting device, dividing the light sources in groups, each group being associated to a projection distance, calculating an overlapping region as a function of the projection distance, calculating a number of affected light sources for each group as a function of a representative dimension of the overlapping region and attenuate the intensity of the light emitted by the affected light sources in each group of each lighting device, following a monotonic attenuation pattern from 100% attenuation in the first affected light source to 0% in the last affected light source. The invention also provides an automotive lighting device assembly with control means to perform the steps of this method.

Fiber optic panels are optically coupled to the housing assembly to convey light into the internal chamber while the illumination regions extend from the housing to perform a lighting function of an automotive vehicle.

A vehicular illumination system includes a ground illumination module disposed at a side door of a vehicle. The ground illumination module includes a reconfigurable display element and at least one light source operable to emit light. When the at least one light source is electrically powered, light emitted by the at least one light source illuminates a ground region adjacent the vehicle. When the at least one light source is electrically powered, light emitted by the at least one light source passes through the reconfigurable display element and the ground illumination module projects an icon established by the reconfigurable display element onto the ground region. The reconfigurable display element is reconfigurable to form the icon responsive to programming of the reconfigurable display element for an icon.
