ACOUSTIC OTOSCOPE

An acoustic otoscope generates volume change excitations of either a trapezoidal or sinusoidal waveforms which are coupled into a sealed ear canal using a speculum tip. The change in volume results in a pressure change, for which a pressure measurement is taken during the volume change excitation interval. In one example, a trapezoidal time-domain volume change is presented, and a pressure measurement waveform is stored, the pressure measurement waveform thereafter examined to find a change of slope point in time, after which the pressure measurement waveform is scaled to be equal to the volume change waveform at that same point in time, a difference between scaled pressure measurement and volume excitation is formed, and examined for peak value prior to the earlier determined change in slope point in time.

METHOD FOR AUTOMATIC DETERMINATION OF AN INDIVIDUAL FUNCTION OF A DPOAE LEVEL
20170332977 · 2017-11-23 ·

The automated determination of an individual function of a DPOAE level map with p.sub.dp,I=f(L.sub.1, L.sub.2) of human or animal hearing. The method may include reading into a main memory a model function with model parameters of a DPOAE level map, based upon a number of N DPOAE measurements of a stimulation frequency pair with respectively different level pairs in a population (p) of a population of normally hearing subjects, automatically presenting n different level pairs of a stimulation frequency pair via tone output means to an individual and detecting the corresponding DPOAE's of the individual via tone recording means, wherein at least the first level pair is predefined, iteratively adapting the model function to the measured n DPOAE's until an individual function is obtained with individual parameters of a DPOAE level map of the individual, outputting the individual function and/or its individual parameters.

MICROPHONE CALIBRATION COMPENSATION FROM COUPLER TRANSFER FUNCTION
20170311850 · 2017-11-02 · ·

The present disclosure relates to a method and system for determining the sensitivity of a first microphone, the method comprising providing an acoustic coupler having at least one internal cavity configured such that a sound field can be generated within the cavity, the cavity being further in acoustic communication with a reference microphone configured to measure the reference sound pressure at a given position in said cavity, the cavity being further provided with an inlet opening configured to establish acoustic communication between the sound inlet of said first microphone, the sensitivity of which is to be determined.

In-Ear Noise Dosimetry System
20170312135 · 2017-11-02 ·

An in-ear noise dosimeter in the form of an earplug which senses sound in the ear canal using an eartip which has a sound delivery channel that couples sound at the end closest to the eardrum to an earplug microphone. The earplug can communicate wirelessly with a remote data collection and processing system. A dock unit for storing the earplugs when not worn can compensate for differences in unoccluded-ear versus occluded-ear responses by an acoustic compensator. An electronic compensation filter can be modified by a proximity switch in the earplug which changes state when the earplug is worn in the ear versus stored in a dock unit. The dosimeter can also have a temperature sensor for sensing human body temperature and remotely-located wireless LEDs used to alert the user of high noise dosage. Data can also be downloaded from the earplug using a reader unit.

HIGH-PRECISION TEMPORAL MEASUREMENT OF VIBRO-ACOUSTIC EVENTS IN SYNCHRONISATION WITH A SOUND SIGNAL ON A TOUCH-SCREEN DEVICE
20220054049 · 2022-02-24 ·

A method for determining the tap time of a user in response to an auditory stimulus. The method includes: playing back the auditory stimulus corresponding to a reference audio signal, recording the reference audio signal and one or more vibro-acoustic events, the vibro-acoustic events following one or more taps by the user on a touch screen of the device in reaction to the reference audio signal, detecting the reference audio signal in the recorded audio signal, the recorded audio signal is recorded by a microphone of the touch-screen device, during the step of detecting the reference audio signal in the recorded audio signal, placing the reference audio signal and the recorded audio signal on a common time scale, filtering the detection and normalizing it to keep only the frequencies corresponding to the vibro-acoustic events generated by the user's actions on the touch screen, and detecting the vibro-acoustic events in which instants associated with the vibro-acoustic events are identified in the signal obtained after filtering.

Adaptive, integrated, and interactive education and communication system for people with hearing loss and hearing healthcare providers and related methods

A system, device, and wireless computer technology-implemented method for providing hearing healthcare education and communication for a patient, his/her communication partner, and a hearing care provider. The system provides the patient at least one educational and experiential module and a method for assessing the patient's comprehension of the module's lessons. The system further provides the patient with a method to select personal hearing aid and communication goals; a method to evaluate his/her progress on achieving each personal goal; and a method to report his/her hearing experiences. The system further provides a method to compare data reported by the patient to personalized thresholds. When one or more of the patient's reports do not meet the thresholds, the system sends automated alerts to the hearing care provider to encourage prompt remedial action and sends automated reminders to the patient to improve the patient's ability to achieve his/her personal goals.
