Methods and systems are provided for diagnostics of an intake air filter during vehicle-off conditions. In one example, the engine may be reverse rotated, unfueled, and air flow via the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold are estimated and compared to a baseline air flow. A blocked intake air flow may be indicated based on the comparison between air flow via the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold and the baseline air flow upon opening a secondary flow path to atmosphere.

The invention is a monitoring system for determining a vehicle safety setting based on weight. The system includes a monitoring station, a weight determination system, a data input device configured to receive input data, and a processing device. The processing devices includes a processor and non-volatile memory. The processor is configured to receive load ratings for a tow vehicle and tow equipment, receive weight data from the weight determination system, and receive the input data from the data input device. The processor is also configured to determine at least one safety setting based on the load ratings, the weight data, and the input data, send the safety setting data to the monitoring system, and communicate the safety setting to a user.

Methods, systems, and vehicles with electromechanical variable transmission

A method of operating a first electric machine and a second electric machine in a vehicle drive includes operating the vehicle drive in: a first operating mode by operating the first electric machine in a voltage mode and the second electric machine in a torque mode; and a second operating mode by operating the first electric machine in the torque mode and the second electric machine in the voltage mode.

MULTI-MODE ENGINE-DISCONNECT CLUTCH ASSEMBLIES AND CONTROL LOGIC FOR HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Presented are engine-disconnect clutches with attendant control logic, methods for making/operating such disconnect clutches, and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) equipped with an engine that is coupled to/decoupled from a transmission and electric motor via a disconnect clutch. A representative method for controlling an HEV powertrain includes receiving an HEV powertrain operation command, then determining a clutch mode of a multi-mode clutch device to execute the HEV powertrain operation. This multi-mode clutch device is operable in: a lock-lock mode, in which the clutch device transmits torque to and from the engine; a free-free mode, in which the clutch device disconnects the engine's output member from the transmission's input member, preventing torque transmission to and from the engine; a lock-free mode, in which the clutch device transmits torque from but not to the engine; and, a free-lock mode, in which the clutch device transmits torque to but not from the engine.

When parking is expected at a predetermined point, state of charge reduction control is performed in a current trip to control an engine and a motor, such that the state of charge of a power storage device is lower than the state of charge of the power storage device when parking is not expected at the predetermined point. State of charge recovery control is performed in a next trip to control the engine and the motor, such that the state of charge is recovered during operation of the engine. When parking is expected at the predetermined point but an instruction for motor drive is estimated to be given in a predetermined time period or in a predetermined distance since a start of a next trip that is started at the predetermined point, execution of the state of charge reduction control is limited in the current trip.

VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE

A vehicle control device performs a drive mode switching control including switching a drive mode, when a request for switching to a manual drive control is made during execution of an automated drive control, to one of a plurality of drive modes that allows a driving force to accord with a required driving force based on an operation of the driver of the vehicle, over a wide range.

Powersplit hybrid powertrain with overdrive clutch

A hybrid vehicle powertrain includes an internal combustion engine, first and second electric machines, traction wheels, and an output shaft having meshing gears configured to establish a final drive ratio between the output shaft and the traction wheels. The powertrain additionally includes a first mechanical linkage and a second mechanical linkage. The first mechanical linkage is configured to selectively transmit engine torque to the fraction wheels and selectively transmit electric machine torque to the traction wheels. The second mechanical linkage is configured to selectively transmit engine torque to the traction wheels. When transmitting engine torque to the wheels, the second mechanical linkage defines a fixed overdrive speed relationship between the engine and the fraction wheels.
