A gondola railcar cleanout door is configured to be coupled to a side plate of a railcar adjacent a railcar floor wherein the side plate and floor each have an opening therein. The cleanout door includes a frame mountable to the railcar side plate structure, adjacent the side plate structure opening; and a door assembly coupled to the frame and moveable between an open position in which the openings in the floor and the side plate may be used to clean out the interior of the railcar, and a closed position substantially closing the openings in the side plate and the floor, wherein the door assembly includes a door side wall member configured to substantially close the opening in the side plate in the closed position and a door floor member configured to substantially close the opening in the floor in the closed position.

A railcar door sealing gasket includes a bulb body secured along one of a door jamb stop surface or a door perimeter stop surface. The bulb body is integrally formed by a tubular sleeve internally separated with a wall into interior and exterior elongate channels. The separating wall is formed with pair of planar walls extending at an angle with respect to each other from the sleeve to a crest towards the interior channel. When the gasket is compressed between the door and jamb stop surfaces, the sleeve portion adjacent the exterior channel is forced against and forms a seal along one of the jamb stop surface or door stop surface, and the separating wall folds along the crest forcing the sleeve portion adjacent the interior channel against and forms a seal along a door perimeter surface extending at an angle from the door stop surface.

According to some embodiments, an apparatus for securing railcar doors comprises a staple affixed to a portion of a railcar. The staple defines a staple hole. The apparatus further comprises a hasp. The hasp comprises a hinge. The hasp further comprises a first portion pivotally coupled to the hinge. The first portion is affixed to the railcar. The hasp further comprises a second portion. The second portion comprises a first end and a second end. The first end of the second portion is pivotally coupled to the hinge. The second end is opposite the first end. The second portion of the hasp comprises a square key plug configured to be inserted into a square key hole of a railcar door. The second portion of the hasp defines a first hole through which a portion of the staple may pass when the hasp is in a closed position.

The inserted portion includes a pin taper in the direction towards the first end of the locking pin. The apparatus further includes a first receiver coupled to the railcar. The first receiver defines a recess. The recess comprises a receiver taper compatible with the pin taper. Inserting the inserted portion of a respective one of the one or more locking pins into the recess of the first receiver restricts movement of the railcar door.

According to some embodiments, an apparatus for railcar doors comprises a locking plug configured to be disposed within a square key hole. The locking plug comprises a front portion defining a recess having a recess shape. The apparatus comprises a key element. The key element comprises a key element shaft having a shape corresponding to the recess shape. The key element is configured to be inserted into the locking plug and to transfer a torsional force from the key element to the square key hole. In particular embodiments, the locking plug may comprise a back portion. The locking plug is disposed within the square key hole by a weld connecting the back portion of the locking plug to a portion of the square key hole.

RAILROAD CAR AND END DOOR ASSEMBLY THEREFOR

A gondola car has a door and an associated door frame the end. The door hangs hingedly from the header of the frame. The header runs across the top of the door opening and is connected to the top chords at either side. The door posts are positioned inside the side sheets and tie into the header at each upper corner. The side sheets lap onto the door posts to allow longitudinal adjustment of the side assemblies and the door frame relative to each other, at assembly. The side posts are connected to the header with a tie plate that is bolted to both members. The car may also have a tarp dome at each end. The tarp dome has non-welded connections that have play to permit the tarp dome to accommodate movement of the top chords.

According to some embodiments, a railcar comprises a door, and the door comprises an inside panel and a plurality of ladder rungs coupled to the inside panel arranged in a vertical sequence. The railcar further comprises a folding ladder apparatus comprising a first ladder rung and a second ladder rung. The folding ladder apparatus is pivotally coupled to the inside panel and operable to pivot in a vertical direction between an up position and a down position. When the door is in an open position and the folding ladder apparatus is in the down position, the second ladder rung extends below a bottom of the door facilitating access to the railcar. When the folding ladder apparatus is in the up position, the first ladder rung and the second ladder rung are vertically offset from the plurality of ladder rungs coupled to the inside panel of the door.
