Railcar acoustic monitoring system and method of use

A microphone assembly including an outer housing, an inner housing, a printed circuit board (PCB) and a cord. The outer housing includes an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface and defining an opening there through, and a plurality of attachment structures protruding from the inner surface thereof. The inner housing includes an outer surface, an opening, and a plurality of attachment structures protruding from the outer surface thereof. The PCB includes at least one micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone including an acoustic port. The PCB is coupled to the inner housing such that the acoustic port of the at least one MEMS microphone is positioned within the opening. The cord interconnects the attachment structures of the outer and inner housings, respectively, together.

RAIL WARNING SYSTEM AND METHOD
20240409139 · 2024-12-12 · ·

The present disclosure generally relates to a rail warning system using wireless portable transmitters/receivers. The rail warning system uses a chirp spread spectrum modulation scheme, and alerts personnel in work zones on or near train tracks as well as optionally, on track equipment and train operators, of approaching trains or on track equipment. Portable wayside devices may also be positioned on the rail web, optionally magnetically, to alert work personnel, allowing for secure placement but also portability to other locations on the same track or adjacent tracks.

A method operates a mobile device in a railway system with at least one optical waveguide which is laid next to at least one railway track and into which light pulses are fed. The optical waveguide is used as a distributed acoustic sensor and detects scattered-back light. In order to be able to identify reliably such a mobile device in a comparatively easy way, the mobile device is provided with a sound generator which can be adjusted with respect to its frequency spectrum in a way which designates the mobile device. The sound generator is adjusted with respect to its frequency spectrum in a way which designates the mobile device by assigning a frequency selection to the mobile device. An identification number signal of the mobile device is acquired by detecting the scattered-back light from the detected frequency selection. A railway system having such a mobile device is also taught.

Sensor unit with fastening element for fastening to a structure

A fastening element for a sensor is disclosed, which fastening element can be fastened to a structure by means of a light-curing adhesive. The light-curing adhesive is cured within the cavities provided for receiving the light-curing adhesive by direct and/or indirect illumination. Furthermore, a sensor unit having a sensor and a fastening element, an arrangement having a sensor unit and a structure, and a method for providing an arrangement is disclosed.

Structure for railroad ties having data acquisition, processing and transmission means

A laminated wood and encapsulated railroad tie structure and its associated method of manufacture. A wood core of laminated wood slats is inserted into an extruded sleeve of scrap tire rubber and polyurethane. A urethane adhesive laminates the wood slats together and serves as a lubricant and bonding agent for placement and secured engagement of the sleeve about the core. End caps are securely engaged at each end of the composite sleeve, being secured to both the wood or other natural fiber core and sleeve. Longitudinal grooves or slots for engagement with a railroad bed characterize the bottom and side surfaces of the sleeve. The core may be provided with bores and grooves to receive sensors and conductors interconnected with a processor and transponder maintained in an end cap. The end case also maintains a photovoltaic device and power source for the active elements of the railroad tie structure. The core may also be manufactured of a wood or other natural fiber giving the core a desired flex modulus to provide for better control and serviceability of associated rails and railway cars.
