Mobile Railway Asset Monitoring Apparatus and Methods
In one aspect, a mobile railway asset monitoring apparatus is provided that includes a sensor configured to produce a signal indicative of a rotation of a wheelset of a mobile railway asset. The apparatus further includes a processor to receive data corresponding to a ground speed of the mobile railway asset. The processor is operably coupled to the sensor, the processor configured to estimate a running dimension of the wheelset based at least in part on the rotation of the wheelset and the ground speed of the mobile railway asset. The processor is configured to determine at least one parameter of the mobile railway asset based at least in part on the running dimension of the wheelset.
On-board apparatus and ground system
At an on-board control unit of an on-board apparatus, a coupling detecting unit detects coupling of a failure train with respect to the own train. Then, in the case where detection is performed by the coupling detecting unit, a train occupancy range calculating unit updates train length information using the number of vehicles of the failure train and uses the updated train length information to calculate train occupancy range information. Further, a traveling control unit controls traveling and stop of the own train as a series of coupled trains in the case where detection is performed by the coupling detecting unit.
System and Apparatus For Determining the Position of Railbound Vehicles on a Railway System
A method and system for determining a position of a rail-bound vehicle on a railway is disclosed. The apparatus comprises: a transmitter and receiver for wireless communication with at least one base station arranged at a predetermined position in the vicinity of the railway; a measurement device to determine a distance to said at least one base station based on measurements of the radio signals of said wireless communication in the time domain and/or phase domain; and a controller arranged to determine a present position of said vehicle on said railway based on said distance. A control system/method for controlling rail-bound vehicles in a railway system, and/or an internal or external system related to such rail-bound vehicles, using such position determination is also disclosed.

A device configured to process data comprised in data messages passing on message buses of a rolling stock comprises: a universal input interface receiving data messages complying with the three following physical layers: RS232; RS485; CAN. From the message buses, the data messages comprise data; a processing engine receiving a remote requested configuration comprising one or more processing rules; a standardizing unit decoding the data messages into standardized data streams in function of the remote requested configuration; and wherein the processing engine further applies one or more of the one or more processing rules of the standardized data streams in function of the remote requested configuration.
METHOD FOR OPERATING A RAIL VEHICLE NETWORK
A method for operating a rail vehicle network, in which a plurality of rail vehicles travel. The rail vehicles determine their respective position in the rail vehicle network by forming position information. Each of the rail vehicles transmits its position information to a route-side central unit, and the central unit forwards the received position information to all rail vehicles in the rail vehicle network. The rail vehicles each have their own collision monitoring unit, which checks the received position information for a possible risk of a collision with one or more of the other rail vehicles, and generates a collision warning signal in the event that a collision risk is established.
Worker protection system
A worker protection system may include a train-mounted unit for use on a train, and one or more wayside units, configured for placement on or near a track traversed by the train. Each of the train-mounted unit and the one or more wayside units may include a corresponding communication component, with one or more antennas, configured to transmit and/or receive wireless signals, with the signals comprise ultra-wideband (UWB) signals, and one or more circuits configured for processing signals and data, and for performing applications or functions relating to operations of the corresponding unit. The train-mounted unit may operate cooperatively with the one or more wayside units, to provide alerts to one or more workers operating on or near the track, based on communication of the UWB signals with at least one of the one or more wayside units.
Micro Sleep for Network Node Providing Service to User Equipment Onboard a High Speed Train
In one aspect, a network node receives a message indicating that UEs that require service are expected to enter a service area of the network node. The network node determines, based on the message, that a change in power management for radio equipment corresponding to the service area is required. The network node determines a timing for initiating the change in power management for the radio equipment, taking into account a predicted time for when the UEs are expected to enter the service area, and triggers the change in power management for the radio equipment, based on the determined timing. In another aspect, the network node predicts a departure time from the first service area for the UEs. The network node then sends to another network node, prior to the predicted departure time, an indication that the UEs are expected to enter a service area of the other network node.
SYSTEM FOR OBSTACLE DETECTION
A system and corresponding method are described, for use in alerting on objects in path of vehicle's propagation. The system comprising RF transmission/reception unit comprising at least one phased array antenna unit, and a control unit. The RF transmission/reception unit is configured for periodically scanning a selected region by transmission of interrogating RF signal and collecting reflected RF signals from the selected region and generate based thereon pattern data indicative of the collected RF signal, and for transmitting the pattern data to the control unit. The control unit is configured and operable for processing the pattern data for determining existence of interfering object in path of propagation of a vehicle carrying the system, and for generating alert data indicative of existence of one or more interfering objects.
