Medical Device Having a Single Output and a Dual Output
20230149036 · 2023-05-18 ·

A medical device having a mechanism adapted to convert a single translational input into multiple rotational outputs. An embodiment includes a hinge pin assembly in operable communication with a single input actuator. The hinge pin assembly includes a housing configured to translate in response to actuation of the input actuator. The housing translates about the length of a hinge pin. The housing has a plurality of concentrically aligned annular rings. An upper pinion and a lower pinion are in operable communication with the housing such that linear translation of the housing cause the pinions to rotate. Each pinion is in operable communication with linear gear racks, axles, or other force transferring components. The force transferring components are in operable communication with a pivotable distal end of the medical device. As a result, the linear input causes each distal end of the medical device to pivot with respect to its respective shank.

A surgical robotic system has a robotic grasper, a user interface device (UID), and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the UID and the robotic grasper. The system detects a directive to engage or re-engage a teleoperation mode, determines that the system is in a non-teleoperation mode, receives a sequence of user actions through the UID, determines the UID matches a jaw angle or a grip force of the robotic grasper, and transitions into teleoperation mode. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

An electrocautery unit for connecting to a handle of an electrocautery device, the unit comprises a body, a light unit and an electrode. The body has a body proximal end and a body distal end, and a body axis extending lengthwise along the center of the body. The body's proximal end comprises a connecting element for connecting said body to a handle having a handle axis extending lengthwise along the center of the handle, so that said body axis is coaxial with said handle axis when said body is connected to said handle. The light unit may be constructed and arranged to emit a light having a central axis coaxial with said body axis. The electrode comprises a proximate end connected to the body distal end, and an electrode tip at a distal said. When the electrode is connected to the body, the electrode lays outside of the body axis and extends into said body axis such that the electrode tip is within said body axis, wherein said light and said electrode tip are coaxial to said body axis and said handle axis.

JAW MEMBER, SURGICAL INSTRUMENT INCLUDING AT LEAST ONE JAW MEMBER, AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A JAW MEMBER

A jaw member of a surgical instrument includes a structural body including a tissue-facing surface having an elongated opening defined therethrough and defining an internal cavity in communication with the elongated opening. A jaw liner of a material that is not conducive to molding includes an internal portion substantially filling the internal cavity and extending to the elongated opening. A method of manufacturing a jaw member of a surgical instrument includes preparing a material, forging the material into an internal cavity defined within a structural body of a jaw member, and setting the material such that the material substantially fills the internal cavity and is retained therein thereby forming a jaw liner of the jaw member.
