EQUIPMENT AND METHOD FOR RECOVERING FLEXIBLE PIPES WITHOUT THE USE OF SPECIAL VESSELS
The present invention addresses to equipment for collecting flexible pipes without the use of special vessels, using less costly resources and which are not committed to not damaging such equipment during handling, since it is applied to pipes at the end of their useful life or that are already damaged. These types of pipes represent a major liability for some oil industry operators. The technology to be used, in phases of demobilization of fields or even for collecting pipes with no prospect of use, uses vessels with minimal adaptations that rely on the presence of collecting/launching wheels with a much smaller diameter when compared to the wheels used in conventional vessels or, alternatively, the launch of a special collection coil with its own traction means to make it possible to wind the abandoned pipes, in the same place where they are launched, with subsequent collection of the set and transshipment to the vessel itself.
Device and Method for Reeling in a Cable from a Source and Temporarily Storing the Cable
A device for reeling in a cable and temporarily storing the cable is described. The device comprises first and second storage units, each comprising a cylindrical body for arranging the cable, as well as support means for carrying the cable from the source to cable seizing means of the second storage unit and further to the first storage unit. The second storage unit is rotatable around a rotation axis parallel to the cylinder longitudinal axis in a reeling direction. The storage units are arranged such that the second storage unit when rotating in the reeling direction can simultaneously reel in a part of the seized cable originating from the source and another part of the seized cable originating from the first storage unit. A method for reeling in the cable is also described. The device and method allow storing an increased amount of cable on a cable laying vessel for instance.

Adjustment and repositioning of coiled tubing tensioning device while deployed
Systems, methods, and apparatuses for adjusting and repositioning a coiled tubing tensioning device while deployed. The system comprises a tubing guide for receiving a coiled tubing, a tensioning device for maintaining the coiled tubing in tension, and a tower frame having a moveable platform supporting the weight of the tensioning device. The moveable platform is adjustable vertically to raise and lower the tensioning device with respect to the tower frame, and the tower frame permits the tensioning device to move horizontally with respect to a fixed ground point.
Unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) based underwater communications network including short-range navigation device and related methods
An underwater communications network may include spaced apart nodes on a bottom of a body of water. The underwater communications network may also include fiber optic cabling connecting the spaced apart nodes. Each node may include a frame, a node short-range navigation device carried by the frame, and an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) carried by the frame after delivering a fiber optic cable along a navigation path from an adjacent node. The UUV may be configured to cooperate with the node short-range navigation device during an end portion of the navigation path adjacent the frame.

PIPELAY REEL WITH FLANGE CHUTE
Novel and advantageous pipelay reel systems and methods for use in laying flexible or rigid pipe or tubing in on and offshore operations. The pipelay reel system may have a pipelay reel having a drum arranged between two flanges. At least one flange of the reel may have a chute configured to receive an adapter coupled to a starting end of the pipe to be spooled on the reel. An initiation line coupled to a winch and intersecting the flange chute may be used to position the adapter with respect to a receiving end of the flange chute, and the reel may be rotated to pull the adapter down the chute to a latching end of the chute. Moreover, a latch may be used to secure the adapter in the chute such that the pipe may be spooled onto the reel.
OFFSHORE POSITIONING SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system for measuring the attitude of an object in a fixed frame of reference from a moving frame of reference, comprising a first imaging device for producing image data for the object from a first direction, a second imaging device for producing image data for the object from a second direction having a component perpendicular to the first direction and an attitude sensing arrangement for determining an attitude of the first and second imaging devices with respect to the fixed frame of reference at the time the respective images are taken and for generating attitude data. An image processing system analyses and combines the respective image data and attitude data to determine the attitude of the object. The system is particularly useful for determining attitude of offshore piles during piling operations or for monitoring the departure angles of pipes and cables during laying thereof.
