ISOLATION DEVICES TO REDUCE CONTAMINATION DURING IMAGING OF PATIENTS

Systems, devices, and methods for isolating and protecting patients during medical imaging procedures. The devices generally related to disposable personal protective equipment (PPE) that may be used to isolate patients and prevent cross-contamination of infectious diseases during medical imaging.

SURGICAL DRAPE
20220008154 · 2022-01-13 ·

The present invention provides a surgical drape such that even when it is incised or punctured with a surgical tool in a state where it is pasted to an uneven surface having a low smoothness or to a part having a high curvature, such as a hand, a leg, or the head, a part subjected to incision or the like and its surroundings are unlikely to peel off, the surgical drape having excellent handling properties and safety. The surgical drape is a surgical drape 10 provided with a tacky layer 5 to be incised or punctured with a surgical tool, the tacky layer 5 having a tacky surface 2 to be brought into contact with a region including a surgery site of a living body. The surgical drape 10 has a Young's modulus of 10.0 MPa or less and may further be provided with a film-like base material 15 disposed by lamination on a surface on an opposite side of the tacky surface 2 of the tacky layer 5.

BINOCULAR OPERATING MICROSCOPE PROTECTIVE SHIELD BARRIER

A device for protecting a dental professional from patient aerosol and splatter is provided. The device includes a first elastic section with two holes connected to a second rigid section. The first section is sufficiently elastic to allow for increasing or decreasing the inter optic distance of a binocular operating microscope without affecting the seal or material integrity of the first section or the position or function of the second section.

MULTI-LAYER PRE-DRAPE APPARATUS AND PROCESS
20210346121 · 2021-11-11 ·

A multi-layer pre-drape apparatus is applied to a patient before the patient is moved into the operating room. The multi-layer pre-drape apparatus includes a lower layer with a center aperture and an upper layer that covers the aperture. The multi-layer pre-drape apparatus can be placed on a sterilized area of the patient to maintain the cleanliness of the incision area. Alternatively, the multi-layer pre-drape apparatus can be placed on the patient and sterilization fluid can be applied to the skin of the patient through the aperture. The patient can then be moved into the operating room and the upper layer of the multi-layer pre-drape can be removed to expose the sterilized area of the patient in the aperture. Additional drapes can be added to the pre-drape apparatus.

BACKUP LATCH RELEASE FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENT

A surgical instrument that can include a proximal control mechanism that includes an opening through which a resilient latch arm is inserted into the proximal control mechanism and engages a locking surface of a fixed latch structure contained within the proximal control mechanism; means for receiving a release tool through an outer periphery of the proximal control mechanism and beyond the opening through which the resilient latch arm enters the proximal control mechanism, the means for receiving the release tool remaining uncovered when the resilient latch arm is attached to the fixed latch structure, and means for providing a fulcrum for the release tool on the outer periphery of the proximal control mechanism such that the release tool can release the surgical instrument by prying the resilient latch arm away from the locking surface of the fixed latch structure using the release tool as a lever.

STERILE MONITOR AND DISPLAY COVERING FOR SURGICAL ENVIRONMENTS
20230320803 · 2023-10-12 ·

A drape can be used to cover a display device in a medical environment to create a sterile barrier over the display. The drape includes a front panel and a rear panel. The drape can form first and second top corner pockets and first and second bottom corner pockets. The drape may include a pull tab connected to one or both of the first and second bottom corner pockets. In use, a clinician can position the first and second top corner pockets of the drape over first and second upper corners of the display. The clinician can grasp the pull tab and pull the drape around the bottom edge of the display, positioning the first and second bottom corner pockets of the drape over the first and second bottom corners of the display. This can provide a tight fit between the drape and display for good visualization through the drape.

PATHOGEN CONTAINMENT DEVICE
20210338361 · 2021-11-04 ·

The present invention provides a safer way to intubate patients having communicable diseases, such as bacterial and viral infections. It protects health care professionals performing the intubation from bodily fluids of the patients that might otherwise be projected directly onto them by coughing, gagging, vomiting, or sneezing. Additionally, it traps airborne suspensions or aerosols containing pathogens, such as bacterial, myco-bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, originating from the patient and keeps them from entering into the air in close proximity to the healthcare professionals. The contaminated air can then be vented to a location which is away from personnel, such as an outdoor containment area. In one embodiment of this invention the contaminated air is passed through a disinfecting solution which destroys the pathogens before the air is recycled into the environment, such as the room where the intubation is carried out.

PORTABLE SYSTEM FOR PREVENTION OF PATHOGEN TRANSMISSION
20210338509 · 2021-11-04 ·

The invention discloses a system for protecting healthcare workers from exposure to pathogens while attending to a patient in respiratory distress that requires procedures such as intubation and subsequent placement of a patient on a ventilator. The system comprises a transparent and flexible drape, covering the facial area of the patient with openings situated cranially above the patient, fitted with sleeves/cuffs to which gloves are optionally sealed to the cuffs. The drape is supported above the patient with one or more supporting members, which are secured to the patient's bed. The perimeter of the drape is optionally fitted with a plurality of weights such that when the drape is placed over the supporting member it forms an impervious barrier against pathogens between the patient and the healthcare workers. The system is lightweight and can remain attached to the patient's bed should the patient require movement to a different location.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENT WRAP UTILIZING DIFFUSIBLE FLUORESCENT LAYER

A surgical instrument wrap having at least one or a plurality of fibrous layers that cooperate with at least one agent or dye layer that is generally not visible until the at least one or plurality of fibrous layers is damaged or disrupted. The at least one diffusible agent or dye layer diffuses or wicks into the disrupted or damaged area. A fluorescent dye, a reactive dye, a conjugant dye or an absorption wavelength of approximately 200-400 nanometers in one embodiment and an emission wavelength in the visible spectrum so that when the surgical wrap is damage or disrupted and then exposed to, for example, a fluorescent or ultraviolet light source, the agent or dye fluoresces to provide an indication to the user that damage to the wrap has occurred. The user can presume that the items or instruments in the surgical tray may be contaminated.

Liquid-impermeable stitching method for seam of vapor-permeable virus-barrier fabric

A fluid impervious stitching method for a seam of a vapor-permeable virus-barrier laminate. The laminate comprises: at least one thermoplastic resin fiber layer; at least one vapor-permeable virus-barrier thermoplastic elastomer film layer; and a bonding layer located between the two layers and formed of an adhesive capable of being fused with the two layers. In the stitching method, overlapping or stacking is performed to form a seam, and heat sealing is performed on the laminate at the seam. The temperature of heat sealing is higher than the melting point of a material layer having the highest melting point in the laminate, but lower than the temperature at which perforation or decomposition occurs in any material layer in the laminate. The heat-stitched seam has excellent windproof, vapor-permeable, virus barrier and liquid-barrier performance, has a smooth appearance without wrinkles, and feels soft. Also provided is a protective textile product prepared by means of the stitching method.
