GRAVITATIONAL AND/OR PNEUMATIC RESTRAIN AND RELEASE MECHANISM FOR AN EXTERNAL AIRBORNE LOAD
20230106196 · 2023-04-06 · ·

Mechanism for restraining and releasing an external airborne load through pneumatic ejection wherein the load supports are made hollow so as to form a tank for the compressed air. The load supports consist of monolithic metal bodies made using an additive manufacturing process.

Adjustable coupling mechanisms for projectile devices

The present disclosure provides an assembly including at least one adjustable coupling mechanism. In one aspect, the first coupling mechanism includes a first component having a central axis parallel to its outside surface. The first component further includes an inside surface defined by a bore formed in the first component along a central bore axis. The central bore axis is offset from the central axis. The first component can be coupled to the assembly, uncoupled, rotated about its central axis, and recoupled to change a distance between the first coupling mechanism and another part of the assembly. The first component further includes a plurality of holes formed circumferentially around the bore bottom and extending through the bore bottom and the bottom surface of the first component that can be used to removably couple the first component to the assembly.

Projectile delivery systems and weaponized aerial vehicles and methods including same

A projectile delivery module to be mounted on an aerial vehicle includes a projectile delivery system including a kinetic projectile and a base system. The kinetic projectile includes a projectile body, an RF receiver, and an onboard steering system including: a steering mechanism operable to change an attitude, orientation, and/or direction of flight of the kinetic projectile; and a steering actuator. The base system includes: an RF transmitter to communicate with the RF receiver; a projectile holder; a target tracking system; and a projectile guidance system including a projectile tracking system and a projectile control system. The base system is configured to: release the kinetic projectile from the projectile holder such that the kinetic projectile is driven toward a target by gravity; track the target using the target tracking system; track the released kinetic projectile using the projectile tracking system; and automatically control the onboard steering system using the projectile control system to adjust a trajectory of the falling kinetic projectile to steer the kinetic projectile to the target.

Airborne rocket launch system
09745063 · 2017-08-29 ·

A system for air-launching a liquid fueled rocket launch vehicle using a tubular rocket support structure for holding the launch vehicle and for supplying the launch vehicle with make-up cryogenics, electrical power, and control signals, and for providing coupling to a launch-assist aircraft. The tubular rocket support structure contains cryogenic fluids, in addition to fuel and oxidizer, to cool the fuel and oxidizer during the pre-launch phase. The tubular rocket support structure has features that keep the liquid fuel and oxidizer from sloshing away from the tank outlet ports to the launch vehicle's rocket engine after release from the aircraft but before rocket launch. In operation, the aircraft controllably releases the tubular rocket support structure containing the launch vehicle, and the launch vehicle then launches from the rocket support structure.
