The invention provides a sterilizable pouch having at least one wall formed of a flexible film and including an opening formed therein for providing communication to an interior space of the package. A breathable material is disposed on an outer surface of the wall covering the opening. The breathable material is joined to the outer surface of the wall with a continuous heat seal. The flexible film forming the wall comprises a multilayer film having a peel feature that permits the breathable material to be peelably removed from the surface of the pouch.

A packaging unit for packaging pharmaceuticals into a pouch includes packaging equipment operable to form the pouch, a track configured to direct the pharmaceuticals toward the packaging equipment, and a receptacle coupled to the track upstream of the packaging equipment to receive the pharmaceuticals from the track. The receptacle includes a plunger. The pouch is formed around the plunger.

A packaging unit for packaging pharmaceuticals into a pouch includes packaging equipment operable to form the pouch, a track configured to direct the pharmaceuticals toward the packaging equipment, and a receptacle coupled to the track upstream of the packaging equipment to receive the pharmaceuticals from the track. Embodiments include a package for containing and dispensing a product. The package includes first and second layers; a product seal zone where the first layer is joined to the second layer, the product seal zone having an inner perimeter that defines an unsealed pouch area for containing the product and an outer perimeter; and a header zone adjacent to the outer perimeter of the product seal zone. The header zone includes a first tab; a second tab; a first tab-cut in the first layer within an unsealed portion of the header zone; and a second tab-cut in the second layer within the unsealed portion of the header zone. Embodiments include a package for containing and dispensing a product. The package includes first and second layers; a product seal zone where the first layer is joined to the second layer, the product seal zone having an inner perimeter that defines an unsealed pouch area for containing the product and an outer perimeter; and a header zone adjacent to the outer perimeter of the product seal zone. The header zone includes a first tab; a second tab; a first tab-cut in the first layer within an unsealed portion of the header zone; and a second tab-cut in the second layer within the unsealed portion of the header zone. A controllable packaging device (5) and a method relate to packaging compressed bales (6) on a baling press (2) with a bale-fixing element (11) and a multi-component bale envelope (7) including an upper part (8), a lower part (9) and optionally a sheath-type side part (10). The packaging device includes a fixing device (23) applying the bale-fixing element (11), a supply device (25) supplying the upper part and the lower part and optionally an envelope device (24) applying the side part to the compressed bales. The fixing device and optionally the envelope device are arranged on a transport apparatus (19) that travels along the compressed bale in an advancing direction (22). The supply device is arranged on the transport apparatus and supplies the upper part and the lower part with a supply movement oriented transversely to the advancing direction, from the outside into the baling press.
