Packaging machine infeed, separation, and creasing mechanisms
A machine for forming packing templates includes a infeed system that can feed multiple feeds of sheet material into the machine without repositioning the infeed system or forming creases or bends in the sheet material. The machine also includes a separation and cutting systems with one or more cutting tables and biased knives that cut the sheet material packaging templates. The machine also includes creasing roller(s) that forms creases in the sheet material. The machine also includes a system for reducing or eliminating the impact of irregularities in the sheet material.
APPARATUS INCLUDING A TAPE APPLICATOR HEAD
A digital flatbed cutter is described. The cutter includes a flatbed on which a workpiece can be positioned. A head unit is movable in a plane above the flatbed. A tape applicator head and a cutter head are mounted to the head unit. The tape applicator head includes an applicator roller for applying a strip of tape to the workpiece that is rotatable about an axis that is normal to the plane so that strips of tape can be applied to the workpiece in any direction. The cutter head includes a knife or blade for cutting the workpiece. A creaser head that includes a creaser wheel for creasing the workpiece can also be mounted to the head unit.

Individualized packaging
A method for producing reusable packaging from a carton. A rectangular blank has sides X and Y, a total area xy, 2(a+h)≤x≤3(a+h)+a, and y−2(h+r)≤b≤y, where a and b are side dimensions, h is height, and r is width, or width reduced by height h, of the periphery region R of the finished packaging. The method includes: producing folding lines B in the blank parallel to a first side Y at these distances from the latter: B.sub.1: a.sub.1=h; B.sub.2: a.sub.2=h+a; B.sub.3: a.sub.3=2h+a; severing of two severing lines T, each starting from opposite sides X, along one of the folding lines B, or the extension thereof; selecting the distance between two end points E.sub.T of the severing lines T which are closer to an axis of symmetry S.sub.1, which is parallel to the side X, such that the distance corresponds to a side B″ of the finished packaging or length of a side M of a packaging insert.
Box template folding process and mechanisms
Apparatus and methods of forming boxes from template blanks includes moving the blank forward on a drive line while one or more side panel fingers raise and lower various side panels of the blank in an alternating fashion. One or more holders maintain the side panels in position as the blank moves forward on the drive line. The raised and lowered side panels rigidify various panels from which they extend. The rigidified panels may be less susceptible to bending along false scores that extend transversely across the blank during folding and bending steps of the box forming process.
