Ultrasonic methods and devices for dental treatment
Devices and methods for ultrasonic dental treatment are described, wherein the devices and methods can comprise a flexible array of cooperative ultrasound transducers. The array can contain individual ultrasonic transducers that can perform both functions of emitting and sensing. The transducers can have the ability to interchange their functions from emitting to sensing. The transducers can cooperate in providing an ultrasound treatment and each transducer can be independently controlled by an external source controller. An ultrasound system is provided comprising: an ultrasound transducer sensor array operable to emit or sense ultrasound, wherein the timing and intensity of emission may be controlled by an electronic controller based on a feedback signal from the sensors. In addition the ultrasound system can also have the ability to sense coupling to a treatment tissue. This ability to sense proper coupling can improve the efficacy of the treatment.

There is described a method and a system for monitoring a medical, in particular dental, device comprising at least two components, wherein at least one process parameter of the medical device which is sensitive to the functioning of the at least two components, is measured and stored for a plurality of operation cycles of the medical device and a maintenance requirement is recorded, when the process parameter reaches at least one preset and/or over a plurality of operation cycles calculated reference value, wherein a control unit assigns a maintenance requirement to one of the at least two components based on probabilistic evaluation of the recorded process parameters.
METHODS FOR CONDUCTING GUIDED ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL PROCEDURES, AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEM
Methods of conducting object-related procedures and associated system involve a secure and physical interaction being formed between a fiducial device and a site having an associated object to form a fiducial marker. A virtual plan is formed, detailing the procedure on the object at the site, in registration with and with respect to the fiducial marker. Movement of a procedure-conducting device is physically regulated with a guidance device responsive to a controller device and with respect to the fiducial marker. The guidance device physically regulates movement of the procedure-conducting device, according to the virtual plan and corresponding with physical manipulation of the procedure-conducting device by the user, to conduct the procedure. Tactile feedback is provided to the user, via the procedure-conducting device, if the physical manipulation by the user causes the procedure-conducting device to deviate from the virtual plan.
REGISTRATION AND IDENTIFICATION TOOL AND METHOD FOR A DENTAL AND/OR CRANIO-MAXILLOFACIAL SURGICAL INSTRUMENT AND/OR GENERAL SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A registration and identification tool (1) for an instrument (100), comprising a body (2), a marker member (3) which is optically detectable and provided on the body (2), and a recess (4) in the body (2) which extends from an outer surface of the body (2) into the inside of the body (2), thereby defining an extension direction of the recess (4), wherein the recess (4) has a shape such that a lateral extension of the recess (4) decreases in the direction from the outer surface of the body (2) towards the inside of the body (2). A method for registration and identification of an instrument (100) comprising by placing a surgical tool (102) of the surgical instrument (100) into the recess (4) of the tool (1), pivoting the surgical instrument (100) relative to the marker member (3) while the surgical tool (102) is placed inside the recess (4), performing a detecting process of the relative movement of the surgical instrument (100), and identifying geometrical characteristics of the surgical tool (102) and/or registering the relative position of the surgical tool (102) to the remainder of the surgical instrument (100) using the results of the detecting process.
AN ULTRASOUND TREATMENT APPLIANCE WITH AUTOMATIC SETPOINT CONTROL
An ultrasound treatment appliance comprising a surgical handpiece, an ultrasound insert, and an ultrasound generator, the handpiece including a piezoelectric transducer connected to the ultrasound insert and a piezoelectric motor connected to the ultrasound generator. The piezoelectric motor transmits ultrasound waves to the insert, which waves are defined as a function of current and voltage setpoint signals delivered by the ultrasound generator to the piezoelectric motor. The appliance also includes a module for controlling the amplitudes of the setpoint signals and configured to increase or decrease the amplitudes of the current and voltage setpoint signals when the variation in the impedance of the ultrasound signal is greater than a predetermined impedance variation value and when the variation in the frequency of the ultrasound signal is greater than or less than the predetermined frequency variation value.
DENTAL LASER APPARATUS AND METHOD OF USE WITH INTERCHANGEABLE HAND PIECE AND VARIABLE FOOT PEDAL
A dental laser system for treatment of hard and/or soft tissue includes a main chamber housing optical and primary fluid supply subsystems, for directing a laser beam and fluid to a treatment area. A hand piece affixable to the main chamber, includes mating optical and secondary fluid supply subsystems. The hand piece can be rotatable or re-orientable about an optical axis within the hand piece. A lock can maintain a selectable angular orientation of the hand piece relative to the main chamber. A coupling can maintain a fluidic communication between the primary and secondary fluid supply subsystems even when the hand piece is rotated or re-oriented. A sensor and controller can sense a selected angular orientation of the hand piece and adjust the main optical subsystem according to the sensed angular orientation, to align the two optical subsystems. The laser may be controlled using a variable speed foot pedal.
