Registration and identification tool and method for a dental and/or cranio-maxillofacial surgical instrument and/or general surgical instrument

A registration and identification tool (1) for an instrument (100), comprising a body (2), a marker member (3) which is optically detectable and provided on the body (2), and a recess (4) in the body (2) which extends from an outer surface of the body (2) into the inside of the body (2), thereby defining an extension direction of the recess (4), wherein the recess (4) has a shape such that a lateral extension of the recess (4) decreases in the direction from the outer surface of the body (2) towards the inside of the body (2). A method for registration and identification of an instrument (100) comprising by placing a surgical tool (102) of the surgical instrument (100) into the recess (4) of the tool (1), pivoting the surgical instrument (100) relative to the marker member (3) while the surgical tool (102) is placed inside the recess (4), performing a detecting process of the relative movement of the surgical instrument (100), and identifying geometrical characteristics of the surgical tool (102) and/or registering the relative position of the surgical tool (102) to the remainder of the surgical instrument (100) using the results of the detecting process.

Oral irrigator with slide pause switch

An oral irrigator including a handle through which fluid flows to a tip. Fluid flows to the tip during irrigate mode, and fluid flow may be interrupted by selecting a pause mode. The handle includes a mechanically controlled actuator for selecting the pause mode. The actuator may include a rack gear operably connected to a pinion gear formed on a valve spool inside the handle. The valve spool may include a ball that blocks fluid flow to the tip during pause mode but not during irrigate mode.

DENTAL LASER INTERFACE SYSTEM AND METHOD

Embodiments of the invention provide a system of controlling a dental laser system. The system can include a dental laser and a control system for controlling certain functions of the dental laser. A graphical user interface can be used to provide input to the control system. The graphical user interface can include a central display and an outer display with selectable segments, and a menu navigation portion located adjacent the outer display. Treatment categories, procedures or laser control options can be selected using the interface, and the interface can be updated based on data from the station.

Method and device for carrying out various functions in connection with surgical instruments

A surgical instruments can be carried out via a foot switch by an operator or a surgeon. It is typical that during operation, multiple surgical instruments are each operated via one foot switch. As a result, the risk of an incorrect operation of the foot switches increases because the space available for the placement of the foot switches is limited. The invention provides a method and a device using which various functions in connection with surgical instruments can be carried out in a simple and safe manner. This is achieved in that at least one projector for generating a virtual control panel and at least one sensor for acquiring the virtual control panel are assigned to a foot switch.

Dental care unit, control of the dental care unit and dental care room

Structures of a dental care unit used in dental care work are disclosed. A frame part of the dental care unit has one or more components to attach a vertically extending support part, and a cover structure of the frame part has at least a first and a second cover part. The support part extends vertically essentially from an area of a seam locus between the cover parts, whereto is arranged a seam element. The seam element is preferably arranged to emit light as controlled by a control system of the dental care unit. A dental care unit like this is specifically applicable for use in a dental care room or premises having several dental care units.

CALLIBRATION-FREE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL LOCATION AND ORIENTATION OF IDENTIFICATION MARKERS

The present invention involves a vectorized multi-material fiducial reference for use in tracking on a user-calibration free basis a non-visible scan-detectable structure of a body as part of a three-dimensional tracking system. The fiducial consists of scan-detectable elements embedded within the body of the fiducial, the body being formed of a material compatible with the tracked body. The scan-detectable elements are embedded in a rotationally asymmetric pattern in the fiducial with to an accuracy compatible with surgery. A vectorized tracking marker may be attached directly or indirectly to the fiducial. The system employs a controller in communication with a non-stereo optical tracker to track in real time the marker and thereby the fiducial based on a prior scan of the surgical site with the fiducial attached. A method for manufacturing the fiducial employs pins to hold the scan-detectable elements accurately in position while forming the body of the fiducial around the elements.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MONITORING A MEDICAL OR DENTAL DEVICE
20180052454 · 2018-02-22 · ·

There is described a method and a system for monitoring a medical, in particular dental, device comprising at least two components, wherein at least one process parameter of the medical device which is sensitive to the functioning of the at least two components, is measured and stored for a plurality of operation cycles of the medical device and a maintenance requirement is recorded, when the process parameter reaches at least one preset and/or over a plurality of operation cycles calculated reference value, wherein a control unit assigns a maintenance requirement to one of the at least two components based on probabilistic evaluation of the recorded process parameters.

MODULAR DENTAL TOOL AND DOCKING STATION

A modular dental system, methods for controlling a modular dental tool, a dental system, a control module, and a treatment unit. In one embodiment, the modular dental system includes a modular dental system including a control module and a battery module. The control module includes a first end, a second end, a control sub-system, and a charging sub-system. The control sub-system is configured to communicatively couple to an attachment, detect an attachment identifier associated with the attachment when the attachment is removably attached to the first end of the control module, and control the attachment based on the attachment identifier. The battery module is configured to removably attach to the second end of the control module.

ENDODONTIC TOOL AND METHOD

A reciprocating endodontic hand tool in which the torque applied to an instrument such as a debriding file can be set at or below an endurance limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur. In preferred embodiments the tool can switch between settings in which the torque applied to the instrument is between the endurance limit of the file and an elastic limit of the file, by setting forward and reverse angles of rotation within specified limits. This reduces or eliminates opportunites for plastic distortion, fatigue and breakage of the file during the canal debriding/cleaning/shaping process in a root canal treatment or retreatment. In some embodiments the torque may be set to at or below a durability limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur through repetitive strain over the course of a particular root canal treatment or retreatment.
