Systems and method for protection of optical system of laser-based apparatus
In an apparatus for directing a laser beam to a dental treatment area, where the apparatus includes a hand piece having an optical subsystem including a turning mirror for directing a laser beam to a treatment area via an orifice of the hand piece, a fluid supply subsystem creates a fluid flow within the hand piece proximate the turning mirror so as to mitigate contamination thereof.
Pause valve and swivel assemblies for oral irrigator handle
An oral irrigator handle through which fluid flows to a tip is described. Fluid flows from a fluidically connected hose to the tip during irrigate mode, and fluid flow may be interrupted by selecting a pause mode. The handle includes a mechanically controlled actuator for selecting the pause mode. The actuator may be operably connected to a shuttle valve that is positioned to block fluid flow to the tip during pause mode but not during irrigate mode. The handle may also include a swivel assembly. The swivel assembly prevents rotational movement of either the handle or the hose from being transmitted to the other, such that rotation of the handle will not affect the position of the hose.

Dental handpiece having a rolling bearing
A dental handpiece (1) having a drive (3) of a tool (4), which drive is located in a head housing (2), has at least one media-conducting line arranged in the head housing, which media-conducting line has an outlet opening to the tool, and a tool receptacle (16) arranged in a drive chamber, which tool receptacle is rotatably supported by means of a rolling bearing (11) in a support (14) of the head housing (2) on a side of the drive chamber facing the tool. The rolling bearing has an outer race (13), which is supported against the head housing (2) radially in the support (14) in the area of a raceway (22) and which has a sub-area (21), the outside diameter D2 of which is reduced compared to the outside diameter D1 in the area of the raceway (22). The head housing has a housing projection (23), which extends into the area of the reduced outside diameter D2, and the media-conducting line (17) runs at least partially through said housing projection (23).
Dental treatment and/or examination assembly, dental coupling unit, and method for flushing the liquid-conducting system of a dental treatment and/or examination assembly
The invention relates to a dental coupling unit (1), which can be detachably coupled to an instrument attachment (2) for dental treatment and/or examination at the front end (11) of the coupling unit and also can be connected to a supply unit (3) for providing supply media for the instrument attachment (2), wherein a media supply line (4) extends through the coupling unit (1) toward the instrument attachment (2) and wherein additionally a media return line (5) extends through the coupling unit (1), which media return line is connected to an end region of the media supply line (4) extending through the coupling unit (1), which end region faces the instrument attachment (2). The coupling unit (1) has a valve assembly (6), which conducts the liquid from the coupling unit (1) to the instrument attachment (2) when the instrument attachment (2) is attached and conducts the liquid to the media return line (5) and blocks the escape of the liquid at the front end (11) of the coupling unit (1) when the instrument attachment is not attached.

This disclosure relates to various systems and methods related to preventative laser-based treatment of a dental tissue; for example, to prevent a patient from forming cavities. In some instances, a laser-based treatment system can generate a laser beam pulse with a fluence profile at a treatment site that results in either an increase in acid resistance of the tissue or removal of carbonate from the tissue, without melting or ablating the tissue. In some instances, the laser-based treatment system can direct the laser beam to various locations within a treatment site according to a temporal and/or spatial pattern, that results in either an increase in acid resistance of the tissue or removal of carbonate from the tissue, without melting or ablating the tissue. Many other systems and techniques for preventative and other laser-based treatment are also described.
