The current invention relates to a lid for a cup which protects the contents of the cup and the drinking hole from contaminants. In some embodiments the lid for a cup includes a base and a cover connected to the base which rotates around the base. In this way the cover protects the drinking hole when closed, but can rotate open to allow the user to access the drinking hole and the contents of the cup. In some embodiments the cover is further equipped with a stopper which fits into the drinking hole and helps secure the cover in a closed position. In other embodiments the base is further equipped with a ramp leading up to the drinking hole which guides the cover to the drinking hole and locks the stopper within the hole. In other embodiments a protective layer is provided over the base which is removed before use.

In an embodiment, a thermal gap may be incorporated adjacent the thermochromic ring to expedite thermal transfer during temperature monitoring.

This application is directed to a Biometric Locking Jar with Integrated Vacuum Pump. More particularly, this application provides a biometric locking lid capable of interfacing with a jar or other container, wherein the biometric locking lid includes a built-in electrically powered vacuum pump and a labyrinth seal lid gasket which acts to lock the jar from unauthorized access by pulling a vacuum within the jar and securing the lid to the jar preventing unauthorized access to the contents of the jar. A user enrolls a fingerprint or thumb print. The vacuum pump is activated by scanning and recognizing a user's enrolled fingerprint. The locking jar may be used to keep contents secure and fresh, and also out of the reach of children or other unauthorized individuals as it employs the user's fingerprint or thumb print to release the vacuum and open the jar, allowing access to the contents inside.

The lens can be formed with or fixed to a base of a container, embedded within the base of the container or molded within the base of the container. The properties of the lens depend on the height of the container, which determines the focal length for proper magnification. In an embodiment, the lens is substantially flat on one side while in another embodiment the lens can be curved on both sides. In an embodiment, the container can maintain a flat base with a natural curvature on the edges that enhance magnification or the visibility of an object arranged in the container.

The device may include a base layer, a plurality of microcapsules, and a coating, with the microcapsules being disposed between the base layer and the coating. The microcapsules contain a indicator material that can be released once the microcapsules burst. The microcapsules then have a compressive bursting strength that is chosen or designed to be less than a selected pressure (e.g., the pressure being that to which a particular article may be exposed during high pressure processing). Thus, when the device is subjected to a pressure greater than the compressive bursting strength, at least some microcapsules burst, the indicator material is released from the microcapsules, and the release of the indicator material can be detected by observation of the device. The device may be a label that is associated (such as by being affixed) to the article being subjected to pressure (or multiple labels being associated (such as by being affixed) to multiple articles. Alternatively, the device may be associated with an article or articles without being affixed thereto.

The container includes an inner tube and an outer tube forming an insulated double-wall sealed at both ends in which the lid and reservoir unit can be connected thereto. The reservoir unit removably receives a thermal unit that provides cooling or heating to the contents of the container when affixed thereto. The thermal unit is separable from the reservoir unit, such that the thermal units are interchangeable as needed. In some embodiments, the thermal unit is directly securable to the lid and the second end of the container is permanently sealed.
