Systems and methods for identifying and transferring sheets

Provided are systems and methods for identifying, isolating, and/or aligning sheets. An identification system can facilitate accurate identification of a sheet by (i) vacating one or more components of the system that are not the sheet from a zone of detection, and/or (ii) determining a reference axis of the sheet. An isolation system can facilitate accurate isolation of a sheet by (i) providing targeted air flow, and/or (ii) introducing a wave into the sheet. Identification systems and/or isolation systems described herein may facilitate isolation of sheets that were previously fastened together by one or more fasteners. An alignment system can facilitate accurate alignment of a first sheet at an upstream location relative to a second sheet at a downstream location via machine learning.

Apparatus (1) for feeding an unstacker magazine (2) with mailpieces (3) on edge, which apparatus includes a first feed conveyor (4) for conveying trays (6) extending crosswise and loaded with mailpieces placed flat on the bottoms of the trays, and tray tipping means (8) for pivoting a tray forwards onto a ramp of the tray tipping means so as to bring the mailpieces on edge from the tray to the unstacker magazine. A turning station for metal sheets or metal sheet stacks, having a first support which forms a first support plane for a first side of the metal sheets, and having a second support which forms a second support plane for a second side of the metal sheets. The supports are rotatable about a horizontal rotation axis and provided with a plurality of detents which project beyond longitudinal edges of the metal sheets. The supports are part of a rotary installation with a frame having two end-side rotary bearings on a common rotation axis and a basket which is mounted in the two rotary bearings for motorized rotation about the rotation axis, the basket having end-side linear guides for the two supports. The supports by way of support planes which extend in parallel and are oriented toward one another are held in the basket such that the rotation axis is situated between the two support planes and the two supports in the end-side linear guides are in each case movable in a motorized manner in a movement direction toward and away from the rotation axis. Methods for unpackaging, storing, and turning metal sheet stacks are also provided.
