A car mounted governor (12) for an elevator system includes an overspeed pulley (38) configured to be secured to an elevator car of an elevator system. The overspeed pulley is configured to detect an overspeed condition of the elevator car via a rate at which a governor cable (42) passes around the overspeed pulley. The car mounted governor further includes a free pulley (40) configured to be secured to the elevator car with the governor cable routed over the free pulley. A tensioning device (64) is located at the free pulley and is operably connected thereto to maintain a select tension on the governor cable.

ELEVATOR SYSTEM INCLUDING A MOTORIZED MODULE

An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator system includes a cab configured to accommodate at least one passenger or item inside the cab. A motorized module includes a base, a connector supported on the base and at least one drive member supported on the base. The connector is configured to selectively establish a releasable connection between the motorized module and the cab. The drive member is configured to engage a vertical surface, climb along the vertical surface to selectively cause vertical movement of the base, and selectively prevent movement of the base when the drive member remains in a selected position relative to the vertical surface. At least one motor is associated with the drive member to selectively cause the drive member to climb along the vertical surface. The motorized module is vertically movable independent of the cab when the motorized module is released from the cab.

An illustrative example embodiment of a device for controlling movement of an elevator car includes an emergency stopping supervisor, such as a processor and memory associated with the processor. The emergency stopping supervisor is configured to: determine when an indication from an electrical protection device indicates that the elevator car should be stopped, issue a command for the elevator car to move at a reduced speed, monitor continued movement of the elevator car at the reduced speed, and continue to allow the elevator car to move at the reduced speed until a selected condition exists or immediately cause the elevator car to stop if the reduced speed is not within a predetermined range.

The invention allows inspection tests for an elevator without additional test weights. An empty elevator car and its counterweight are balanced by filling in weight pieces to the counterweight. 100% load of the elevator car in regard to unbalance is configured by moving unused counterweight pieces inside the elevator car. Inspection tests requiring the 100% load in regard to unbalance are performed. 125% load of the elevator car is simulated with 50% load and 125% speed of the elevator car. Inspection tests requiring the 125% load in regard to unbalance are performed. A final counterweight is configured by moving its weight pieces from the elevator car to the counterweight. Inspection tests requiring the final counterweight are performed.
