Method for building an elevator system in a building under construction including: installing in an elevator shaft a movable machine platform supporting an elevator car and a counterweight; installing above the machine platform a lifting platform; raising the lifting platform by a construction crane or lifting device before raising the machine platform; and equipping the lifting platform with a cable catch device having a safety cable arranged between the lifting platform and a cable pulley support fixed above the lifting platform, the safety cable having a first load-bearing cable portion fixed to or above the lifting platform and a last load-bearing cable portion guided through a cable stop device attached to the lifting platform, the cable stop device blocking the last portion to prevent further lowering of the lifting platform after a speed of the last portion relative to the cable stop device exceeds a specified limit.

The invention relates to a method for constructing an elevator comprising constructing a movable machine room in the bottom end of a hoistway formed in a building under construction; and thereafter hoisting the movable machine room; and constructing an elevator car in the bottom end of the hoistway below the movable machine room; and providing a counterweight in the bottom end of the hoistway below the movable machine room; connecting the elevator car and the counterweight with a suspension roping; and thereafter hoisting the movable machine room to a first transport position; and thereafter mounting the movable machine room to the first transport position in the hoistway vertically supported on stationary structures; and thereafter using the elevator car for transporting passengers and/or goods below the movable machine room while the machine room is mounted in said first transport position and the elevator car and the counterweight hang suspended from the machine room by the hoisting roping; and thereafter hoisting the movable machine room upwards to a second transport position; wherein the second transport position is higher than said first transport position; and thereafter mounting the movable machine room to the second transport position in the hoistway vertically supported on stationary structures; and thereafter using the elevator car for transporting passengers and/or goods below the movable machine room while the movable machine room is mounted in said second position.

A belt of an elevator system includes one or more tension elements extending longitudinally along a length of the belt, and an elastomeric jacket at least partially enveloping the one or more tension elements. The jacket defines a traction side configured to be interactive with a traction sheave of the elevator system and a back side opposite the traction side. A protective tape is applied to the elastomeric jacket at the back side. A method of assembling an elevator system includes forming a belt, and installing the belt in a hoistway of the elevator system. One or more additional components of the elevator system are installed in the hoistway. A protective tape is removed from a jacket of the belt after installation of the one or more additional components is completed.

Method for constructing an elevator system having an adaptable usable lifting height
A method for constructing an elevator system in a building includes performing at least one lifting operation to adapt a usable lifting height of the elevator system to an increasing height of the building. A drive platform supporting an elevator drive machine and, by a flexible support, an elevator car and a counterweight is raised during the lifting operation. A difference between an elevator-car-side support weight and a counterweight-side support weight is substantially compensated by a compensating tension device guided from a bottom side of the elevator car to a bottom side of the counterweight by a deflecting device including two roller assemblies having deflecting rollers forming a compensating tension loop. A distance between the roller assemblies is reduced before and/or during the lifting operation such that an amount of the compensating tension device required for the performance of the lifting operation is released from the compensating tension loop.
