Surface containment system
A surface containment system to contain liquid contaminates escaping from a vessel, the containment system having in one example: a water and oil impermeable barrier liner positioned below the vessel; a perimeter wall surrounding the vessel, the perimeter wall extending vertically from the ground surface and supporting a portion of the barrier liner so as to form a containment reservoir; at least one fluid conduit through the barrier liner, the fluid conduit having a filter configured to retain contaminates and configured to allow water to pass by way of gravity from the reservoir through the impermeable barrier; the perimeter wall formed of a plurality of wall panels connected by way of struts each having a vertical component, a base component anchored to ground.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR THE LIQUID-PHASE SEPARATION OF ISOMERS OF AROMATIC MOLECULES
The present invention includes a composition and process for separating p-isomers of vinylbenzenes from a mixture of isomers comprising the steps of: providing a porous microwaved Mg(II) 2,4-pyridinedicarboxylic acid coordination polymer having a 1-D pore structure and showing reversible soft-crystal behavior by preferentially binding p-isomers of vinylbenzene; adding a mixture of vinylbenzenes isomers to the porous microwaved Mg (II) 2,4-pyridinedicarboxylic acid coordination polymer; adsorbing the p-isomers of vinylbenzene from the mixture of vinylbenzenes isomers; selectively adsorb the p-isomers of vinylbenzene in the 1-D pore structure; removing the mixture of vinylbenzenes isomers; and desorbing the p-isomers of vinylbenzene from the 1-D pore structure to purify the p-isomers of vinylbenzene.
METHOD FOR SEPARATING LIQUIDS AND USE THEREOF
A molded body includes a shape memory material. The molded body has a three-dimensional surface structure which, in a permanent shape, at least in part has a superhydrophobic surface and/or a hydrophobic surface, on which water droplet contact angles of 120° to 150° are found.
OIL PURIFICATION FILTER
An oil purification filter for purifying a contaminated oil includes a filter body having a first portion and a second portion, where at least the first portion is impregnated with a separation aid. The separation aid is substantially insoluble in the contaminated oil because of its polar properties, and the separation aid is configured to adsorb/absorb contaminating solids or dissolved impurities in the contaminated oil by chemical interactions. The filter body may comprise one or more sheets of cellulose fibers.
Method for solidifying floating oil in food waste water
The invention relates to a method for solidifying a floating fat and oil in a food waste water, the method being capable of solidifying floating oil by uniformly mixing and aging the floating oil having a high content of water generated during the process of treating high concentration waste water generated during a food waste treatment process or generated from a food company, slaughterhouse and the like.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF FATS, OIL AND GREASE
A method and apparatus for collection and disposal or utilization as a carbon neutral fuel of fats, oil and grease that includes a first porous container, a second porous container, and a grease trap having an inlet and an outlet. The first porous container is positioned proximate the grease trap inlet and the second porous container is positioned proximate the grease trap outlet. The first and second porous containers are formed of a porous fabric and contain an absorbent, organic hydrocarbon material capable of absorbing a quantity of fats, oil and grease. The second porous container may be positioned on either side of the grease trap outlet (within the grease trap or intermediate the outlet and an exit pipe) and may be held in a stationary manner via a tether and/or a hinged door having a flange for capturing and holding the porous container in a stationary manner.
FILTER DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ASSEMBLING AND DISASSEMBLING SUCH A FILTER DEVICE
A filter device for separating a liquid mixture, including a vessel with first filter element. The vessel comprises a flat vessel base surface and vessel mantle surface. , including a housing with a second filter element. The housing comprises flat housing base surface and housing mantle surface. The vessel mantle surface comprises re-entrant section forming recess. A mating side of the housing mantle surface is configured to fit into the recess, whereby the re-entrant section and the mating side are provided with connection means to fluidly connect the first filter element with the second filter element. The re-entrant section extends from the vessel base surface, and the vessel base surface and the housing base surface are parallel and level in the same plane when the mating side of the housing mantle surface is fitted into the recess formed by the re-entrant section.
Methods for obtaining liquid from a solid phase
A method for obtaining a liquid from a porous solid phase is described. The method comprises forming a liquid seal at a first end of a porous solid phase to which a liquid is bound, wherein liquid of the liquid seal is immiscible with the liquid bound to the solid phase, and applying a pressure differential across the porous solid phase to cause the immiscible liquid to move through the porous solid phase towards a second end of the porous solid phase, thereby displacing the liquid bound to the porous solid phase towards the second end and releasing this liquid from the second end. Recovery of liquid from the solid phase using such methods is increased compared with corresponding methods in which no liquid seal is formed. In preferred embodiments, the liquid used to form the liquid seal is a mineral oil. The methods have particular application in nucleic acid extractions which utilize capture of nucleic acid to a solid phase. Kits and apparatus for performing the methods are also described.
Oil-absorbent skimmers
Oil-absorbent skimmers of the present invention include an upper oil-absorbent flotation head that floats on water and several absorbent strands attached to the underside of the flotation head. The flotation head has a liquid-permeable cover with absorbent strips inside. The absorbent strips and strands are made of oil-absorbing materials that resist absorption of water. The passive oil-absorbent skimmers may be free-floating and may be used in stormwater catch basins, water holding tanks, vaults, sumps, bilges and the like for capturing hydrocarbons such as oil and oil-based liquids.
Apparatus for hydrocarbon removal
A hydrocarbon removal apparatus includes a plurality of fibers and a backing substrate. Each of the plurality of fibers includes a proximal end and a distal end. Each proximal end is secured to the backing substrate.
