The device has a first container for containing the fluid, the first container being arranged to separate at least a part of one or more components contained in the fluid from the fluid by evaporation. The first container includes one or more openings through which a substance can be supplied to the fluid in the first container for breaking an emulsion or mixture of two or more components contained in the fluid and an exhaust through which the at least part of the one or more separated components can be exhausted.

The filtration system further comprises a sensor. The sensor is structured to sense the identification element of the filter cartridge. The filtration system further comprises a filter blocking mechanism communicably coupled to the sensor. The filter blocking mechanism is structured to prevent installation of the filter cartridge into the housing unless filter cartridge information of the identification element sensed by the sensor is identified as corresponding to an authorized filter cartridge.

A polishing filter employed within a sump pump system for removing mineral oils, natural ester, and synthetic ester-based fluids from an emulsion is provided. The polishing filter is disposed within a sump pump barrier and is gravity-fed a synthetic ester and water based emulsion via a polishing filter conduit. The polishing filter removes excess synthetic ester-based fluids from a water/oil emulsion fluid flowing through a barrier canister disposed within the sump pump barrier above the polishing filter and releases a resultant filtered fluid. The polishing filter cartridge contains a filtration media with a hydrophilic composition for the capture of synthetic ester-based fluid having a surface tension dissimilar to water, and the hydrophilic composition of the media has a surface energy greater than or equal to 35 dynes per centimeter.

The structures disclosed include: a stormwater insert container for installation within a storm drain designed for intake of high volumes of water; an angling filter plug mounting structure and pre-filter basket for a flush installation on a planar floor, such that the filtration media rests beneath the floor and releases filtered liquids into a drainage area; a trench filtration assembly for installation into a trench below surface level, such that the unfiltered liquid passes through the trench and a trench box disposed within the trench filtration assembly prior to passing through the filtration media into a drainage area; and a liner box assembly for installation over an opening made in a non-permeable liner for purposes of pre-filtering contaminated liquids as it flows through the liner box and subsequently the filtration media.

In addition, it is possible to increase the storage efficiency of the mixed fluid storage tank by selectively draining and removing only water other than oil and impurities in the mixed fluid stored in the mixed fluid storage tank.
