Isolation of nucleic acids
Provided herein is technology relating to isolating nucleic acids. In particular, the technology relates to methods and kits for extracting nucleic acids from problematic samples such as stool.
VACUUM BOX, BELT FILTER, METHODS FOR SERVICING A VACUUM BELT FILTER, METHOD FOR LIQUID-SOLID SEPARATION OF A SLURRY, AND FILTER ELEMENT
A vacuum belt filter including a belt with a plurality of vacuum boxes, filter means being arranged to the vacuum boxes, drive means for moving the belt, and a suction station for creating an underpressure to the vacuum boxes at the suction station. In order to enable liquid-solid separation at low energy costs and long service interval of the vacuum belt filter, the filter means is in the form of a capillary filter, each vacuum box being provided with such a filter and each vacuum box being provided with an outlet having a check valve enabling a fluid flow from the inside space of the vacuum box to the outside of the vacuum box for creating an underpressure in the vacuum box when the suction station is connected to the vacuum box.
ISOLATION OF NUCLEIC ACIDS
Provided herein is technology relating to isolating nucleic acids. In particular, the technology relates to methods and kits for extracting nucleic acids from problematic samples such as stool.
Inlet sieve for self-priming floating pumps
An inlet sieve for a self-priming floating pump features a bottom wall that is carried in a position that underlies the inlet of the self-priming floating pump at a distance therebelow with the inlet of the pump aligned with an axis that passes through the bottom wall of the sieve. A perforated outer wall of the sieve stands upward from a top side of the bottom wall and extends about the axis. The bottom wall features an outer area that spans inwardly from the perforated outer wall toward the axis, and a protuberance that bulges upwardly from the outer area to an apex of the protuberance that is situated at the axis. Water flowing inwardly toward the protuberance from different radial directions is directed smoothly upward into the inlet of the pump with minimal turbulence in order to optimize the performance of the pump.

POND PUMP WITH A SELF-CLEANING FILTER UNIT
A pump-and-filter assembly for use in a pond, pool, or fountain. The pump unit creates a flow of water into an intake port and out through a discharge port and a filter unit mounted in front of the pump unit for filtering water flowing through the pump. The filter unit has a turbulence-producing device that produces turbulence in the water on the outside of the filter element. The turbulence in the water that is being drawn into the filter impedes or prevents the build-up of material deposits on the outside surface of the filter element.
Device including a compact spray nozzle for cleaning a filter cloth in a disc filter
A device is provided for cleaning a filter cloth that forms a part of a filter element in a rotary disc filter. The device includes a flush tube and a spray nozzle operatively connected to the flush tube for receiving a cleaning fluid from the flush tube and directing the cleaning fluid onto the filter cloth.
FILTER DEVICE FOR THE HIGH-PRESSURE FILTRATION OF A PLASTIC MELT
A screen wheel filter device for a high-pressure filtration of a plastic melt. An inlet plate and an outlet plate are formed in a housing. At least one spacing element is arranged between the inlet plate and the outlet plate and a bearing ring on which a screen wheel is arranged between the inlet plate and the outlet place and is rotatably mounted. The screen wheel has a plurality of screen segments positioned between the inlet channel and the outlet channel. The inlet channel and the outlet channel each have a funnel opening expanding toward the screen wheel. At least one pressure relief bore is arranged in the inlet plate or in the outlet plate and opens at a bearing ring, and the pressure relief bore is fluidically connected to a relief opening in an outside of the housing via a pressure relief channel formed in the housing.
