Disclosed is an air filter and a method of manufacture for an air filter which is much more cost effective and provides greater operational effectiveness than state-of-the-art air filters. The air filter includes an outer metallic shell which may be used to attach the filter in line to ducting of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The filter may further include a filter unit made of activated carbon material. The filter unit may have one or more sections and may have a honeycomb cross section.

An air filter element has a filter medium body that has a wall to be flowed through by a fluid to be purified in a radial direction relative to a longitudinal axis of the filter medium body. The filter medium body has a first end face and an oppositely positioned second end face. The filter medium body has an elongate cross section shape with two oppositely positioned narrow sides and two oppositely positioned long sides connecting the two narrow sides. A cross section surface of the filter medium body tapers from the first end face toward the second end face. The two long sides each have an inwardly oriented radial constriction in a region of the narrow second end face, wherein, in a region of the first end face, the two long sides are formed without or at least approximately without the inwardly oriented radial constriction, respectively.

A toroidal trap for capturing stray particles directed inside the hole of the toroid shape and enabling gas to transit internally through and exit from a generally toroidal encasement. A filter is removably attached proximate to the hole and it receives the captured particles, the removability enabling the filter medium to be cleaned or replaced. At least one blower is situated within the encasement to drive air or gas past the filter medium and inside the encasement to exit exterior of the toroidal encasement. A method of using the aforementioned toroidal trap comprising the steps of activating the trap, directing particles at a target through the hole, depositing stray particles onto a filter medium and either repositioning the trap or the target depending on user preference.

TANGENTIAL AIR CLEANER WITH COILED FILTER CARTRIDGE

Filtration systems having a tangential air cleaner having a coiled media filter element and a cyclonic pre-cleaner are described. An outer wall of the filter element acts as a pre-cleaner sleeve of the housing to generate a cyclonic flow of the intake air prior to the intake air being filtered by the filter element. The housing cover includes geometry that redirects the cyclonic low from a tangential path to an axial, straight-through flow directed through an inlet flow face of the filter element. Various embodiments of such filtration systems offer increased filter performance and capacity compared to similarly sized cylindrical pleated filter elements having a radial flow filtering path.
