POROUS POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE MEMBRANE HAVING A MACRO-TEXTURED SURFACE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
Compositions and methods directed to the production of single layer, highly porous, free-standing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membranes having macro-textured surfaces are provided. The macro-textured surfaces are due to the presence of macroscopic nodal aggregates within the membrane that are connected by fibrils The membranes have high porosity, high airflow, and a bulk density less than 1.0 g/cm3. Articles comprising the porous, single layer PTFE membranes are also provided.
Molecule Sensor Component and Method for Manufacturing Same
A method for manufacturing a component and a component are provided for sensing a molecule. The method includes controlling a temperature during a reaction of two gases that react to produce a crystalline film spanning at least a cross-sectional area of a nanoaperture defined by a substrate among an array of nanoapertures aligned with crater structures defined by the substrate. A unique chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method that introduces a first gas and a second gas allows for formation of the crystalline film. When used in a molecule sensor, the component enables a user to record double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) translocations at unprecedented high (e.g., 1 MHz) bandwidths. The method for manufacturing the component enables development of applications requiring single-layer membranes built at- scale and enables high throughput 2-dimensional (2D) nanofluidics and nanopore studies.
MICROFILTRATION MEMBRANE
The present application relates to a multizone, unsupported, microporous, high throughput membrane. The membrane includes a first microporous zone, a second microporous zone, and a third microporous zone, where the third microporous zone is positioned between the first and second microporous zones, with the first, second, and third microporous zones being integral with one another. Further aspects of the present application include a process for making the membrane and a filtration cartridge with the membrane of the present application.
Apparatus, systems, and methods for purifying a fluid with a silicon carbide membrane
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to systems, apparatus, and methods for fluid purification (e.g., water) with a ceramic membrane. For example, the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments, to a cross-flow fluid filtration assembly comprising (a) membrane housing comprising a plurality of hexagonal prism shaped membranes (b) an inlet configured to receive the contaminated fluid and to channel a contaminated fluid to the first end of the plurality of hexagonal prism shaped membranes, and (c) an outlet configured to receive a permeate released from the second end of the plurality of hexagonal shaped membranes. The present disclosure also relates to a cross-flow fluid filtration module comprising a fluid path defined by a contaminated media inlet chamber, a fluid filtration assembly positioned in a permeate chamber and a concentrate chamber.
Porous membranes comprising nanosheets and fabrication thereof
A porous membrane comprising stacked layers of nanosheets, each nanosheet comprising one to three atomic layers of a 2D material comprising or consisting of one or more transition metal dichalcogenides is provided. The nanosheets have pores and the membrane comprises a network of water permeation pathways including through-pathways formed by the pores, horizontal pathways formed by gaps between the layers, and vertical pathways formed by gaps between adjacent nanosheets and stacking defects between the layers. Also provided is a method for making the membrane.
SELF-PRESERVING BIODEGRADABLE ENVIRONMENTAL DNA FILTER
An inline filter housing with a biodegradable, hydrophilic material that operates in conjunction with a field sampling apparatus to both concentrate field sampled environmental DNA particles from water samples and to automatically preserve the captured DNA via desiccation, thus avoiding filter membrane transfer steps, chemicals or cold storage preservation requirements. The hydrophilic filter housing is capable of rapidly preserving the field sampled environmental DNA captured on the filter membrane at ambient field temperatures.
ACOUSTIC COMPOSITE INCLUDING A STIFFENING POLYMER, DEVICES, AND ASSEMBLIES INCLUDING THE SAME
A composite that includes an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) membrane having a porous microstructure. The porous microstructure of the ePTFE membrane is impregnated with a stiffening polymer. An acoustic device assembly that includes the composite and an acoustic device is also described. The composite and the acoustic device assembly can exhibit an insertion loss of less than 7 dB at 1 kHz when measured by the Acoustic Response Measurement (“ARM”) Test.
Method for Producing a Gas Separation Membrane
The present invention relates to a method for producing ceramic gas-separation membranes, which comprises depositing, by means of inkjet printing, water-based inks that form layers of a gas separation membrane. More specifically, the method comprises at least the following steps forming a porous support (i) compatible with a functional separation layer; depositing on the support (i), by means of inkjet printing, at least one functional separation layer (ii) formed by at least two inks, and depositing at least one porous catalytic activation layer (iii) on the functional separation layer (ii); and performing at least one heat treatment, which produces sintering. The functional separation layer (ii) is deposited in a manner to produce a surface with fadings, patterns, or combinations thereof he invention also relates to a gas separation membrane produced using the described method.
