The invention relates to a filter element comprising one or more fluid-pervious layers of a fluid-pervious sheet material having first and second surfaces in a substantially parallel arrangement, a fluid-impervious layer arranged in fluid tight contact with at least one of said first and second surfaces of said layer(s) of fluid-pervious sheet material to substantially fully cover the first and/or second surfaces thereof, one or more first and second edge portions, said first and second edge portions being arranged at a predefined distance and separated from one another by a predefined area of the fluid-pervious sheet material, a fluid flow path limited to and extending essentially parallel to the first and second surfaces from the first edge portion(s) to the second edge portion(s) within each of said layers of fluid-pervious sheet material, said first and second edge portions providing a fluid intake and a fluid drainage at the upstream and downstream ends of said fluid flow path, respectively. The invention further relates to filter modules comprising one or more of said filter elements.

A nutrient concentration and water recovery system includes a first suspended solids settling tank configured to receive a flow stream that includes a waste stream with a sludge stream. A sedimentation removal system and a removal device coupled to the sedimentation removal system are provided and configured to remove inorganizes out of a suspension.

Disclosed is a system and a method for testing at least one filtration device. The system comprises a chromatography system (3) comprising at least one pair of inlet and outlet chromatography column connections (7a), 7b for at least one chromatography column, and at least one filtration device housing (21) comprising a filtration device (23) to be tested, whereby each filtration device housing (21) is connected to one of the at least one pair of inlet and outlet chromatography column connections (7a, 7b) instead of a chromatography column in the chromatography system.

An adaptor device for retrofitting in a filter housing is disclosed. The adaptor device allows the filter to be retrofitted with a plurality of filter elements, thereby improving its filtering efficiency.

A ballast water production method is provided. In a method and a system for purification of contaminated oil, the contaminated oil and a liquid separation aid are provided in a mixing tank and then mixed into a mixture. Thereafter, the mixture is filtered.

An adapter for laboratory cell strainer is disclosed. The adapter includes a unitary structure having an annular top surface, an annular bottom surface, a smooth inner surface, an outer surface, and an opening extending therethrough. The adapter has a downwardly and radially inwardly sloped funnel section terminating in a cylindrical edge at the annular bottom surface with a lower section of the funnel section having a narrowed, tapered diameter. A filtration assembly for removing solid particulate matter and contaminants from motor oil including, without limitation, motor oil used in internal combustion engines. A housing having a removable cap defines an inner chamber. Stacked sheets of filter materials, interspersed between pressure plates, are installed within the chamber. Pressurized fluid is introduced into the inner chamber; the fluid pressure acts on the pressure plates and compresses the filter materials. As the pressurized fluid passes through the filter materials, solids and particulate matter are filtered from the fluid stream by the filter materials.

A cylindrical or tubular filter insert (10) of a filter material (2) for liquid media (7) is disclosed. A filtration arrangement (30) serves to receive the cylindrical or tubular filter insert (10). The filtration arrangement (30) comprises a filter housing (31) with an inlet (32) for the medium (7) to be filtered and an outlet (34) for the filtered medium (7).

A liquid composition for use in purifying an oil contains a polar polymer, a surface active hydrotrope/solubilizer, and a co-tenside. The polar polymer may be a polyalkylene glycol, such as polyethylene glycol. The hydrotrope/solubilizer may be an anionic sulfonic acid, a phosphate ester-based substance or a non-ionic surfactant from the poly-glycoside family. The co-tenside may be at least one amphoteric co-surfactant, such as sodium caprylimino dipropionate.
