METHODS, PRODUCTS & USES RELATING TO SCAVENGING OF ACIDIC SULFIDE SPECIES
The use of the combination of (a) an imine compound and (b) a compound including a soft electrophilic centre to scavenge and retain acidic sulfide species at a higher temperature and/or scavenge acidic sulfide species at an increased rate compared to that achieved using the imine compound alone.
Ethane recovery process and alkylation process with ethane recovery
Processes and systems for the production of ethylbenzene using a dilute ethylene feed and subsequent recovery of ethane in the alkylation vent gas.
PHOTOACTIVE SEPARATION OF SOLUTES
Disclosed are methods of separating solute from solvent using a photoactive extractant. The photoactive extractant can be switched between two states by exposure to light. This can change the affinity of the photoactive extractant for either the solute or the solvent, causing absorption of the solute or solvent. The photoactive extractant can then be separated from the fluid stream containing the solute or solvent. The absorbed solute or solvent is then separated from the photoactive extractant. The photoactive extractant is a photoisomer. Applications for these methods include desalination, water purification, and metal extraction.
System for simultaneously removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) from exhaust gas

Process and plant for the combination production of a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen and also of carbon monoxide by cryogenic distillation and cryogenic scrubbing
Process for the combined production of a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen, and of carbon monoxide by cryogenic distillation and cryogenic scrubbing, wherein a methane-rich liquid is introduced at a first intermediate level of a scrubbing column as first scrubbing liquid and at least one nitrogen-rich liquid is introduced at a level higher than the first level of the scrubbing column as second scrubbing liquid and a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen is drawn off as overhead gas from the scrubbing column.
LIGHT GAS SEPARATION FROM HYDROCARBONS FOR VARIABLE COMPOSITION FEED STREAMS
The invention is a process and apparatus for separating the components of a multi-component gas stream comprising light and heavier volatility components with a variable composition. The process includes contacting the multi-component gas stream with a lean solvent in an absorber to produce a light component overhead stream and a rich solvent bottoms stream, flashing the rich solvent bottoms stream in at least a first, second and third reduced constant pressure of sequentially lower pressure wherein the released gas is compressed and a part is routed back to the absorber bottoms as stripping gas and a part is routed as a part of the heavier product stream. In this invention compressed vapor from the first or second reduced constant pressure rich solvent flash vessel is split by flow control between recycle routing to the absorber bottom stage as stripping gas and to the heavier product hydrocarbon stream, depending on the feed gas concentration of light component. The third and any additional flash vessels at sequentially lower pressure produce flash gas that is the remainder of the produced hydrocarbon product stream. The lean solvent remaining after the lowest pressure flash is routed back to the top of the absorber.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING ACETIC ACID
Provided is a method for producing acetic acid, which includes an absorption step that suppresses corrosion inside a distillation column when a solution after that has absorbed a target component is subjected to distillation. The method for producing acetic acid according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an absorption step of supplying, to an absorption column, at least a portion of offgas generated in an acetic acid production process, bringing the offgas into contact with an absorbent containing one or more liquids selected from the group consisting of a hydrocarbon, an ester of a carboxylic acid having 3 or more carbon atoms, an ester of a carboxylic acid and an alcohol having 2 or more carbon atoms, and an ether, to allow the absorbent to absorb an iodine compound in the offgas, and separating into a gas component having a lower iodine compound concentration than the offgas and a solution containing the absorbent and the iodine compound.
