Method for Scavenging Airborne Formaldehyde
A method for scavenging airborne formaldehyde comprising a step of contacting the airborne formaldehyde with an amine compound or a salt thereof.
Method and regenerative separating apparatus for separating contaminants from process exhaust air
A method for separating impurities from process exhaust air is provided and includes the steps of passing a process exhaust air through a separating device comprising a separation unit, regenerating the separating device by passing a regeneration stream therethrough, where outer lateral surfaces of the separation unit are continuously loaded by the process exhaust air and the regeneration stream, dividing the regeneration stream passing through the separating device during regeneration into a first partial stream having an impurity concentration less than a first predetermined limit, and a second partial stream having an impurity concentration equal to or greater than a second predetermined limit, where the second predetermined limit is equal to or greater than the first predetermined limit, returning the first partial stream generated during regeneration to the separating device and directing the second partial stream generated during regeneration to a cleaning device.
Recovery of Ethylene Oxide from Sterilization Process
The invention relates to a process for the recovery and recycling of ethylene oxide (EO) after use in a sterilization process. The process involves the steps of introducing a mixed gas stream containing EO, nitrogen, oxygen, CO.sub.2, water, and a few other trace elements. The system includes integrated EO concentration sensors to determine the concentration of the EO in the gas stream. The system includes a series of compressors to pressurize the gas stream, and chillers or condensers to cool the gas stream to condense the EO out of the gas stream. The system includes temperature and pressure sensors to determine the conditions in the gas stream, and a control system that evaluates the temperature and pressure data and controls the compressors and chillers to achieve the properties to maximize the condensation of EO out of the gas stream.
PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR DEHYDRATING A BYPRODUCT STREAM IN ETHANOL PRODUCTION
The present disclosure provides processes and systems for dehydrating a byproduct stream in ethanol production. In one embodiment, a feed mixture is distilled with one or more distillation units to remove at least a portion of the water, and form a first byproduct stream. The first byproduct stream is contacted with a molecular sieve unit, thereby forming a product stream. The molecular sieve unit is cyclically contacted with at least a portion of the product stream to regenerate the molecular sieve unit and form one or more regenerate streams. A second byproduct stream including at least one of (1) the regenerate streams and (2) at least a portion of the fusel oil stream is contacted with a separation system, thereby forming a permeate and a retentate. At least a portion of the retentate is forwarded into the product stream.
CAVITAND COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
Cavitand compositions that comprise void spaces are disclosed. The void spaces may be empty, which means that voids are free of guest molecules or atoms, or the void spaces may comprise guest molecules or atoms that are normally in their gas phase at standard temperature and pressure. These cavitands may be useful for industrial applications, such as the separation or storage of gasses. Novel cavitand compounds are also disclosed.
ADSORBENT AND PROCESS FOR METHANOL AND OXYGENATES SEPARATION
An adsorbent separates methanol and other alcohols from gas and liquid oxygenates and hydrocarbon streams with a low silica faujasite (LSX) in a mono-, bi, or tri-cation alkali and/or alkaline-earth metal forms. The LSX has silicon to aluminum ratio from about 0.9 to about 1.15 and an ion exchange degree for each alkali or alkaline-earth metal in the range of about 10 to about 99.9% equiv. The gas streams for treatment include natural gas, individual hydrocarbons, or vaporized alkyl esters of carboxylic acids, or methyl tert-alkyl ethers and their mixtures with hydrocarbons. The liquid streams include liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), natural gas liquid (NGL), individual hydrocarbons C.sub.3-C.sub.5, and monomers, alkyl esters of carboxylic acids including methyl acetate, methyl, ethyl, butyl acrylates and methacrylate, methyl tert-alkyl ethers including methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and methyl tert-amyl ether (TAME). The adsorbent is especially suited for temperature swing or pressure swing adsorption processes.
Carbide derived carbon for use in chemical scrubbers
In the method for scrubbing a chemical from a medium, wherein the improvement comprises the steps of using a carbide derived carbon to adsorb the chemical which may later be released by heating. The carbide derived carbon may be a powder, a fiber, a solid foam, a mesh, or other solid form. The carbide derived carbon can adsorb a chemical in the gaseous, liquid, particulate, or aerosol phase.
Recirculating inert gas purification apparatus used with gloveboxes, gloveboxes incorporating the same and methods of using the same
An apparatus that may entirely be contained in a glovebox for the removal of at least one contaminant from an inert atmosphere. The apparatus includes a body, a media in the body for the removal of at least one of the contaminants from the inert atmosphere flowing through the media, a fan for causing the inert atmosphere to flow through the media and body, and a motor for driving the fan. The apparatus may be provided in combination with a glovebox. A method of purification of the inert atmosphere using such an apparatus is also provided.
Sorbent and Devices for Capturing, Stabilizing and Recovering Volatile and Semi-volatile Compounds
The present invention provides an improved sorbent and corresponding device(s) and uses thereof for the capture and stabilization of volatile organic compounds (VOC) or semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) from a gaseous atmosphere. The sorbent is capable of rapid and high uptake of one or more compounds and provides quantitative release (recovery) of the compound(s) when exposed to elevated temperature and/or organic solvent. Uses of particular improved grades of mesoporous silica are disclosed.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RECOVERING AN AMINE SOLVENT FROM AN ACID GAS STREAM
