With proper pH control and antiscalant dosage, the batch-treatment SWRO system of the present invention can be used to recover water from silica-saturated RO concentrate without fouling the membranes. Silica concentrations of over 1,000 mg/L are attainable with relatively minimal pre-treatment of the silica-saturated feed solution.

The diluted draw solution stream is heated, agglomerated and cooled to produce a cooled single phase water rich stream that is purified to produce a water product stream.

The present invention therefore provides a vehicle arranged to receive a diluted-and thus safer-fuel, and to densify this fuel to a concentrated fuel in low quantities on board for direct use. To this end a fuel densifier is provided in the vehicle arranged for receiving liquid diluted fuel and arranged to provide a concentrated fuel based on the diluted fuel, the concentrated fuel having a higher energy density than the diluted fuel. A power conversion module of the vehicle is arranged to convert the concentrated fuel to kinetic energy for powering the vehicle.

A system for continuously treating water with residual oil and/or solids includes a treatment system with inline mixers. A pH adjustment fluid may be added to the water in a first inline mixer. A micro-encapsulating flocculating dispersion flocculant may be added in a second inline mixer. The addition of the micro-encapsulating flocculating dispersion flocculant may cause flocculation of residual oil and/or solids in the water to form a pin flocculant. An activator may be added in a third inline mixer and a conditioner may be added in a fourth inline mixer. Bulk flocculant may be formed from the pin flocculant after the addition of the conditioner. The resultant mixture may flow to a settling tank where the flocculants may settle to produce treated water. After settling, the treated water may flow through a mechanical filter and/or a sorption filter to produce water suitable for desalination and/or other downstream processes.
