Methods for heating a reservoir unit in a dialysis system
The specification discloses a portable dialysis machine having a detachable controller unit and base unit with an improved reservoir heating system. The controller unit includes a door having an interior face, a housing with a panel, where the housing and panel define a recessed region configured to receive the interior face of the door, and a manifold receiver fixedly attached to the panel. The base unit has a reservoir with an internal pan and external pan, separated by a space that holds a heating element. The heating element is electrically coupled to electrical contacts attached to the external surface of the external pan.
Filtration Device For Bioprocessing
An apparatus for treating a biological fluid, comprising a plurality of filtration devices. In some embodiments, each of the plurality of filtration devices comprising at least one inlet and at least one outlet; and a first insert plate and a second insert plate opposite the first insert plate, wherein the plurality of filtration devices is disposed therebetween. In some embodiments, each filtration device has a vent port. A manifold for each of the inlets, outlets, and vent ports is optionally fluidly connected. In another embodiment, hose barb connectors or the like may be protected from damage and/or exposure by being recessed in the device or positioned at a periphery of the device. Embodiments include apparatus and methods to achieve dripless connect/disconnect and to reduce the number of sterile-to-sterile connections.
VARIABLE PATHLENGTH UV SPECTROSCOPY BASED AUTOMATED TFF SYSTEM
A system for TFF filtration of a feedstock includes a feed vessel containing a solution comprising a target biomolecule, a filter membrane for filtering the solution, a feed pump for moving the solution from the feed vessel to the filter membrane, a buffer vessel coupled to the feed vessel by a buffer supply line, and a diafiltration pump disposed in the buffer supply line for delivering a buffer solution to the feed vessel. A variable path-length instrument is coupled to the feed line for determining, in real time, a concentration of the target biomolecule in the solution. A controller is coupled to the variable path-length instrument, the feed pump, and the diafiltration pump to control operation of the system based on the received information.
FLUID DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
There is disclosed a fluid distribution system for distributing fluid from a single source to a plurality of downstream receptacles. The system has a distribution manifold with a single inlet and a plurality of outlets arrayed around a circumferential outer periphery. The outlets may be directed to the different receptacles which each have their own vent filter, or each receptacle connects back to the distribution manifold for common venting.
Integrated disposable component system for use in dialysis systems
The present application discloses novel systems for conducting the filtration of blood using manifolds. The manifolds integrate various sensors and have fluid pathways formed therein to direct fluids from various sources through the requisite blood filtration or ultrafiltration system steps.
SEPARATION SYSTEMS FOR REMOVING STARCH AND OTHER USABLE BY-PRODUCTS FROM PROCESSING WATER
The present invention provides for a method for separating starch from processing solutions containing starch containing plants or roots such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, wheat, corn, tapioca, yams, cassaya, sago, rice, pea, broad bean, horse bean, sorghum, konjac, rye, buckwheat and barley to provide commercially acceptable starch while reducing disposal of solid or liquid waste matter into landfills or water treatment facilities.
TUBULAR MEMBRANE WITH SPIRAL FLOW
A permeable membrane tube to separate mixed fluids is provided, including a cyclone generator configured to cause fluid entering the permeable tube to flow in a spiral direction. The cyclonic generator may be a plug positioned at the fluid entrance of the membrane tube. The fluid passes through the permeable membrane tube, which has a center axis along a length of the tube, and flows in the spiral direction thereby separating the fluid into first and second portions, wherein the first portion comprises fluid having a greater density than the second portion and the first portion is directed to an inner surface of the tube.
Fiber membrane tube for mass transfer between fluids and method of and core winder for making same
The invention relates to a method for producing a device for a mass transfer between two fluids, wherein at least one hollow-fiber mat (9) is wound on an at least partly hollow core assembly (1, 1a, 1b, 2), and the formed coil is inserted into a housing (10). The assembly of the housing (10) and the coil is then sealed (10), in particular potted, with a sealant at the opposing axial ends in the regions between the hollow-fiber ends and the housing. The core assembly (1, 2) is made of at least two axially adjacent core parts (1, 1a, 1b, 2) arranged one behind the other, at least one (1, 1a, 1b) of which has a hollow design, and the core parts (1, 1a, 1b, 2) are kept in specified axial positions relative to each other, in particular at a distance to each other, by means of at least one aid element (7) at least over the period of the sealing process and preferably over the period of the winding process as well. After the sealing process and the removal of the at least one aid element (7), at least the axially end-face core parts (1, 1a, 2) are kept in their relative positions to each other by means of the sealant. The invention also relates to a coil, a core assembly, and a core system.
Reverse osmosis centrifuge
The reverse osmosis centrifuge converts rotational energy into fluid velocity and conserves the energy placed into the concentrate. As concentrate travels back towards the center of the reverse osmosis centrifuge, the velocity of the fluid is converted into rotational force, thus conserving energy. To accomplish this, the reverse osmosis centrifuge includes a stationary cylindrical housing having a vacuum chamber and a vacuum pump for generating vacuum pressure in the vacuum chamber, a driveshaft coupled to a membrane cylinder rotatable within the stationary cylindrical housing, the membrane cylinder having a plurality of vertical desalination membranes, and an energy recovery turbine. The reverse osmosis centrifuge can be placed on the concentrate or waste stream outlet of a desalination or reverse osmosis facility to increase freshwater production. Through using the methods described above, plant water production can be increased up to 40%, which in turn has a dramatic effect on plant profitability.
Filter cassette article, and filter comprising same
A filtration cassette including a multilaminate array of sheets including filter sheets alternating with permeate sheet members and retentate sheet members, and a cross-flow filter device comprising a multiplicity of stacked filtration cassettes of such type. The improvements associated with the filtration cassettes described herein include, but are not limited to, at least one of: reinforced inlet(s) providing for longevity and improved cleanability of the cassettes; spacer permeate screens to limit throughput restriction; stainless steel or otherwise stiffened permeate sheets to prevent movement and increase flux; and stainless steel permeate sheets that can be used with ultrasonic transmission to minimize fouling of the filter sheets and extend cleaning cycles. Advantageously, the filtration cassettes are more resistant to higher temperatures than the filtration cassettes of the prior art.
