The embodiments herein discloses a patient friendly bed provided with a toilet facility that enables the patient to use the toilet without assistance and without leaving the bed. A mattress provided in the bed comprises a trap door which separates to allow the patient to perform bodily functions. The bed comprises a cleaning and waste packaging mechanism for packaging solid and liquid waste in a sealed container and for storing the packaged waste for later removal. The bed is operable using a remote control unit. A sensor device is worn around the patient waist and stomach area to sense a need of the patient to perform bodily functions and automatically operate the bed functions.

A system for washing and treating infants includes components for keeping an infant under controlled sterile and warm conditions. The system also includes a device for washing the infant, which has a support frame and a flexible laminar element adapted to be secured thereto. A collapsible bed bath article which is erectable over the mattress of a hospital-style bed and provides a water impervious enclosure having a drain for rinsing a bed bound patient. In one embodiment, side panels of the article are equipped with pockets which are configured to fit over portions of raised side rails of a hospital-style bed. In another embodiment, a pocket for a side rail of a bed may be produced on an ad hoc basis by adhering portions of each side panel to itself, or to the side rail, thus forming a partial encapsulation of the bed side rail.
