OLEOPHILIC FOAMS FOR OIL SPILL MITIGATION
A method of fabricating an oleophilic foam includes providing a foam comprising a base material. The base material is coated with an inorganic material using at least one of an atomic layer deposition (ALD), a molecular layer deposition (MLD) or sequential infiltration synthesis (SIS) process. The SIS process includes at least one cycle of exposing the foam to a first metal precursor for a first predetermined time and a first partial pressure. The first metal precursor infiltrates at least a portion of the base material and binds with the base material. The foam is exposed to a second co-reactant precursor for a second predetermined time and a second partial pressure. The second co-reactant precursor reacts with the first metal precursor, thereby forming the inorganic material on the base material. The inorganic material infiltrating at least the portion of the base material. The inorganic material is functionalized with an oleophilic material.
MOISTURE WICKING FOOD CONTAINER
A food container for wicking moisture from a food product stored in the container including a food receptacle having an interior volume and an opening for permitting a food product to be placed in and removed from the receptacle, a lid adapted for being positioned onto and sealing the opening, a desiccant reservoir positioned on an underside of the lid for being exposed to the interior volume of the receptacle and adapted for containing a desiccant material, and a plurality of apertures in the reservoir for allowing air flow communication between the interior of the receptacle and the reservoir whereby moisture given off by the food product contained in the receptacle is absorbed by the desiccant material to aid in maintaining freshness of the food.

Carbon dioxide absorbent composition and method for capturing carbon dioxide
A carbon dioxide absorbent composition is disclosed. Based on 100 parts by weight of the carbon dioxide absorbent composition, the carbon dioxide absorbent composition includes 5 to 45 parts by weight of sodium 2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]ethanesulfonate. Moreover, a method for capturing carbon dioxide using the carbon dioxide absorbent composition is disclosed.
WATER CAPTURE METHODS, DEVICES, AND COMPOUNDS
A method of capturing water from a gaseous composition comprising water vapour (e.g., air), the method comprising: (a) providing a metal-organic material; and (b) contacting the metal-organic material with water and/or water vapour;
wherein upon contact with water and/or water vapour the material switches from a first state to a second state wherein the second state is able to retain a higher amount of water than the first state.
NANOPARTICLES AND PREPARATION METHOD
The present invention concerns a composite comprising supported nanoclusters, the nanoclusters comprising one or more metal ion-containing compounds, wherein each metal ion-containing compound is a transition metal complex having ligands coordinated to a transition metal ion, the ligands being selected from the group consisting of glyoxime; a glyoxime derivative; salicylaldimine; and a salicylaldimine derivative; and wherein the nanoclusters are spaced across one or more surfaces of a support; a material prepared from the composite by annealing; and solution-based methods for forming the composite and materials. Uses of the metal ion-containing compounds are also described, as are uses of the products as catalysts and adsorbers.
Method for adsorption separation of propylene and propyne
A method for the adsorption separation of propylene and propyne, comprising selectively adsorbing propyne from a mixed gas of propylene and propyne using an anion-containing metal-organic framework material as an adsorbing agent so as to obtain a purified propylene gas. The anion-containing metal-organic framework material is used as an adsorbing agent in the method, and the adsorbing agent is a kind of highly ordered microporous organic-inorganic hybrid material, with the pore size thereof being adjustable within the range of 0.4-1.2 nm, and the pore volume thereof being adjustable within the range of 0.1-1.2 cm3/g. A large number of anionic active sites and a highly ordered spatial arrangement thereof allow the adsorbing agent to exhibit excellent propyne adsorption properties. Thus, the adsorbing agent has a very high propyne selectivity and adsorption volume.
Process for the synthesis of hybrid allophane
A process for preparing hollow particles of aluminosilicates having a spherical shape of allophane type which are hybrid at the core, comprising: (a) having, at ambient temperature, an aqueous medium containing at least one aluminum precursor and one silicon alkoxide in an Al/Si molar ratio varying from 1 to 3, (b) carrying out, with stirring, the alkaline hydrolysis of said medium with gradual addition of at least one base in a base/Al molar ratio of 2.3 to 3, (c) maintaining, on conclusion of the addition of all of said base, stirring at ambient temperature until said medium is obtained in the clear state, and (d) heating the solution obtained at a temperature varying from 50 to 150 C. for 2 to 8 days, the combined stages (a) to (d) are carried out within a reactor consisting of a material which is chemically inert with respect to the reactants and expected aluminosilicate.
