Gas treatment element and a method of forming a gas treatment element

A method of forming a gas treatment element for use in a gas treatment apparatus, such as a desiccant dryer, is disclosed. The element is formed by casting a sheet material by phase inversion of a dope mixture including a solvent, an adsorbent material such as a desiccant and a polymer binder. Layers of the sheet material are located adjacent one another and this is most readily achieved by rolling the sheet material to form the gas treatment element.

A substrate includes a double-network polymer system including a cross-linked, covalently-bonded polymer and a reversible, partially ionicly-bonded polymer, wherein the substrate has a moisture level less than or equal to 15 percent of the total weight of the substrate, wherein the substrate is porous, and wherein the substrate includes a latent retractive force. A method for manufacturing a substrate includes producing a double-network hydrogel including a cross-linked, covalently-bonded polymer and a reversible, ionicly-bonded polymer; elongating by force the double-network hydrogel in at least one direction; treating the double-network hydrogel with an organic solvent with a volatile and water-miscible organic solvent to replace a majority of water within the double-network hydrogel; evaporating the organic solvent while the double-network hydrogel is still elongated to form a substantially-dried double-network polymer system; and releasing the force to produce the substrate.

Preparation method for combined modified straw active particulate carbon adsorption material and use of same

A preparation method for a combined modified straw active particulate carbon adsorption material and use of same. The preparation method for the combined modified straw active particulate carbon adsorption material comprises the following steps: 1) mixing straw powders, distilled water, a binder and a composite mineral, then pelletizing same, and then placing same in a tube furnace for pyrolysis to prepare straw particulate carbon; 2) introducing an inert gas into a modification reagent, adjusting the pH value combined and 3) soaking the straw particulate carbon into the combined modification solution for 30 min, and performing cleaning and drying, so as to obtain a combined modified straw active particulate carbon adsorption material. The combined modified straw active particulate carbon has a good adsorption effect on phosphate group in low-pollution water.

Method of producing modified sawdust sorbent

A method for producing modified sawdust sorbent that includes sulfonating sawdust with sulfuric acid and oxidizing the sulfonated sawdust with hydrogen peroxide. The method yields modified sawdust sorbent containing sulfonated and oxidized cellulose. The modified sawdust sorbent has a higher surface area, higher organic dye adsorption capacity, and more rapid organic dye adsorption rate than unmodified sawdust. A method of using the modified sawdust sorbent for organic dye removal from water includes contacting dye contaminated water with the modified sawdust sorbent and forming a dye-impregnated sorbent and decontaminated water.

Mesoporous poly (aryl ether ketone) articles are formed from blends of poly (aryl ether ketones) with pore forming additives by melt processing, and can be in the form of a monofilament, disc, film, microcapillary or other complex shapes. The method of formation provides for preparation of poly (aryl ether ketone) articles with high degree of surface area and uniform nanometer pore size. The preferred poly (aryl ether ketone)s are poly (ether ketone) and poly (ether ether ketone). The mesoporous articles formed by the method of the present invention are useful for a broad range of applications, including molecular separations and organic solvent filtration.

Method for preparing modified cellulose aerogel for glycoprotein separation

A method for preparing a modified cellulose aerogel for glycoprotein separation is provided. In this method, cellulose aerogel is employed as a substrate. The cellulose aerogel is known to have a three-dimensional network structure with extremely high porosity and specific surface area and extremely low density. So, by using the cellulose aerogel as a substrate, it is possible to provide the glycoproteins to be separated with more binding sites. PEI dendrimer has abundant functional groups and can easily be modified. By modifying the cellulose aerogel substrate with the PEI dendrimer, it is possible to improve the density of the phenylboronic acid bound to the substrate, thereby leading to higher affinity toward the glycoproteins to be separated.

Method for sulfonating and oxidizing sawdust to form a sorbent

A method for producing a modified sawdust sorbent. The method involves sulfonating sawdust with sulfuric acid and oxidizing the sulfonated sawdust with hydrogen peroxide. The method yields a modified sawdust sorbent containing sulfonated and oxidized cellulose. The modified sawdust sorbent has a higher surface area, higher organic dye adsorption capacity, and more rapid organic dye adsorption rate than unmodified sawdust. A method of using the modified sawdust sorbent for organic dye removal from water is included.
