High-throughput sample processing systems and methods of use

Disclosed herein are high-throughput sample processing systems and waste management systems, and methods of using the same.

REAGENT DELIVERY AND WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Reagent delivery systems, which can include a reagent trough and a pump system, are useful for delivering liquids to a laboratory workbench. Processing samples on the laboratory workbench can result in a large amount of liquid waste. Described herein are reagent troughs, pump systems, reagent delivery systems, waste management systems, and methods of using the same.

IMMUNO HISTO CHEMISTRY TISSUE PROCESSING SYSTEM

A tissue processing system for processing a laboratory slide includes a slide holder for holding the slide, an outlet port positioned to direct a fluid stream onto the slide, and a device for moving the slide holder relative to the outlet port, or vice versa, to adjust a point on the slide at which the fluid stream is delivered onto the laboratory slide. The slide holder includes an absorbent pad configured to be positioned between one wall of the plurality of walls and a free edge of the slide for absorbing fluid travelling along the slide. A manifold of the system includes a first outlet port that directs a first fluid stream from a first fluid passageway onto the slide, and a second outlet port that directs a second fluid stream from a second fluid passageway onto a location of the slide that differs from the first fluid stream.

DEVICE AND METHOD OF MICROBIOLOGY WASTE CONTAINMENT

A microbiology waste containment apparatus and method are provided to prevent toxic slide staining chemicals from being dumped down a drain during slide staining and thus entering publicly owned water treatment works. A primary containment vessel is provided having side walls and an open top area, and a funnel is provided in communication with the open top area. A secondary containment vessel is in fluid communication with the funnel. When microbiology waste is generated above the open top area, the microbiology waste is collected by the funnel and conducted to the secondary containment vessel. The secondary vessel may be disposed internally to the primary vessel, or it may be external to the primary vessel. In the case of the internal secondary vessel, the entire apparatus may be portable and thus appropriate for field or military work.

BIOLOGICAL PROCESSING ASSEMBLY

The present invention relates to a biological (eg cell) processing assembly comprising an aseptic chamber with apertures adapted for gloves to fit and an incubation chamber connectable to aseptic chamber with transfer hatches, doors secured by multi-walls and inflatable seals, stepped collars for tight closure of doors and closed interaction between the chambers. From the aseptic chamber it can be reached through into incubation chamber. There is a docking spigot on outlet wall to interact with stepped collar to define transfer port between the chambers and a disinfectant delivery device to disinfect transfer port.

WORK HOOD

The present invention provides a work hood that allows for free rotation in a work box to provide a wide work area and easy decontamination of a sealing portion present at the boundary between the work hood and the work box.

A rotation support for rotatably supporting the entire half suit is provided. The rotation support includes a base portion, a rotating portion, a bearing portion, a sealing member, and a communication hole. The base portion is airtightly and annularly provided around an opening, and the rotating portion is provided around the base portion through the bearing portion, with a hem portion of the half suit being fixed to the rotating portion. The sealing member is annularly provided in an annular space formed by the base portion and the rotating portion so as to separate the work box and the external environment. The communication hole is provided so as to lead to the external environmental side from the annular small space side formed by the sealing member together with the base portion, the rotating portion, and the bearing portion, and is connected to a supply means for supplying a decontamination gas and the like to the inside of the small space and to a suction means for sucking clean air and the like from the inside of the small space.

Multi-column separation apparatus and method

The invention provides an apparatus and system for the separation and optional analysis of the components of a sample of material, the apparatus and system comprising a cartridge comprising: at least one sample inlet port, at least one resin inlet port and a multiplicity of reagent and purge fluid input ports which are fluidically connected via a multiplicity of control valves to a multiplicity of chromatographic columns which are fluidically connected together in series; and a multiplicity of outlet ports wherein each outlet port additionally comprises an outlet valve which is adapted to control the flow of fluid through said outlet ports; wherein each of said multiplicity of chromatographic columns is aligned with one of said multiplicity of outlet ports so as to allow for fluid flow from said column through said outlet port. The system optionally additionally facilitates the analysis of the components. The invention additionally provides a method for the separation of the components of a sample of material which comprises the use of the apparatus and system of the invention. The apparatus, system and method of the invention are advantageously applied to the separation and analysis of radioactive materials.

Systems and methods for characterizing radioactive analytes

A device for automated characterization of radioactive analytes that provides an integrated system with liquid handling and plate reading components. The device can be further configured to include a chromatographic subsystem. Also provided is a method of using such a device, providing addition of a radioactive sample and a sequence of operations involving the abovementioned components of the system. The system is configured with radiation shielding in such a way that manipulations of radioactive samples do not interfere with concurrent radioactive measurements.

Biological sample collectors and handling thereof

Disclosed is a biological sample collector 500 comprising a solid support 12 having plural discrete areas (22, 24, 26, 28 FIG. 1) for accepting a biological sample, each area being chemically differentiated, for example by having a different chemical treatment sorbed onto the solid support. An envelope 530 encloses the solid support. A cover portion 520 can cover the biological sample after collection to prevent infection. UV light can be applied to the collected sample to reduce the risk of infection.
