Surface coating system and method of using surface coating system
09868862 · 2018-01-16 · ·

A coating system for a surface (such as a floor) including a liquid adhesive layer composition including a heat-activated adhesive that forms an adhesive layer upon drying after application to a surface, and a liquid maintenance layer composition comprising a dispersible polymer that forms a maintenance layer upon drying after application to the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer and the maintenance layer may form a peelable coating. An adhesive strength between the adhesive layer and the maintenance layer may be greater than an adhesive strength between the adhesive layer and the surface. The peelable coating may have a tensile strength that is greater than the adhesive strength between the adhesive layer and the surface. The peelable coating may be configured to be peeled from the surface without the adhesive layer and the maintenance layer separating from one another.

Process and seal coat for improving paint adhesion

Aqueous compositions useful as pretreatments prior to painting and to reduce the formation of rust in the uncoated condition consist essentially of water, an organo-functional silane, a compound of a Group IV-B element, and optionally a polyvinyl alcohol, stabilizing agents, wetting agents, thickeners, and biocides, and have an alkaline pH>7. A process for treating a metal surface includes contacting the surface with such an aqueous composition. The compositions and processes were found to have further benefits in comparison to the zinc phosphate metal pretreatment thought to be the standard in the industry. Preferably, the pH of the compositions is alkaline, which has been found to improve the efficacy of a silane as a surface treatment to improve uniformity of paint adhesion. By operating in the alkaline pH range, it was found that flash rusting and/or blush rust were significantly reduced.

CORROSION RESISTANT WHEELS, ANTICORROSION LAYERS ASSOCIATED WITH WHEELS, AND METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

A corrosion resistant wheel including a body having an outer surface and an inner surface, and a mounting plate having a front surface and a rear surface, wherein the body is adapted for securement to a vehicle and/or trailer, a primary anticorrosion layer associated with at least one of the inner and outer surfaces of the wheel body and/or at least one of the front and rear surfaces of the mounting plate, an optional secondary layer associated with the primary anticorrosion layer, and a tertiary layer associated with the secondary layer.

Use of preformed reaction products of catechol compounds and functionalized co-reactant compounds to reduce oxidation of bare metal surfaces

The tendency of a bare metal surface to oxidize (e.g., flash-rust) may be alleviated by contacting the bare metal surface with an aqueous mixture of at least one preformed reaction product obtained by reaction of at least one catechol compound, such as dopamine or a salt thereof, with at least one co-reactant compound functionalized with one or more functional groups reactive with the at least one catechol compound, such as (meth)acryl, primary amino, secondary amino, thiol and/or hydroxyl groups, with polyethyleneimine being an example of a suitable co-reactant compound. Such a rinsing procedure does not interfere with subsequent conversion coating of the metal surface.

RAZOR BLADE

A razor blade comprising a blade substrate with a blade edge substrate portion ending in blade tip. The razor blade is covered by a strengthening coating deposited on the blade edge substrate portion via a deposition process. The deposition process causes a hardness value of the strengthening coating layer to be increased, which, among other factors, allows for a decreased thickness of the blade substrate with coating. The blade substrate with coating has (i) a thickness of between about 1.57 and 2.37 micrometers measured at a distance of about five micrometers from the coating tip, (ii) a thickness of between about 4.62 and 6.74 micrometers measured at a distance of about twenty micrometers from the coating tip, and (iii) a thickness of between about 19.82 and 27.52 micrometers measured at a distance of about one hundred micrometers from the coating tip.

Processes for producing a multilayer coating
09631281 · 2017-04-25 · ·

A process for multilayer coating of a metal substrate includes pretreating the metal substrate with an acidic aqueous composition comprising phosphate ions and/or a water-soluble titanium and/or zirconium compound, and water. The pretreated metal substrate optionally is flashed off and a surfacer layer of an organic-solvent based surfacer coating composition is applied. The organic-solvent based surfacer coating composition includes a polyaspartic acid ester, a polyisocyanate cross-linking agent with free isocyanate groups, a pigment and/or extender, and an organic solvent. The surfacer layer is cured.

HIGH PERFORMANCE COATINGS

The present invention relates to coatings, particularly high performance coatings, containing a polyester polyol comprising recurring units derived from a polyacid source, poly(bisphenol-A carbonate) (PBAC), and a glycol. The PBAC is preferably recycled poly(bisphenol-A carbonate) (rPBAC). These coatings provide improved salt spray and stain resistance along with a variety of other coating performance attributes. The polyols can contain a significant recycle and biobased content, making them sustainable alternatives to petroleum based polyols.
