A method of configuring a smart booklet to encourage adherence to a treatment and/or educational program is disclosed, wherein the smart booklet is “off the grid” (e.g., not connected to an electrical or networking grid) and includes an integrated behavior incentivization feature. Based on an activation of a detection feature of the smart booklet, it is detected whether a state of one or more pages of the smart booklet has changed. Based on the determination that the state of the one or more pages has changed, a set of data items pertaining to the adherence to the treatment and/or educational program is created or updated. Based on an identification that the set of data items is indicative of a failure or a success with respect to the adherence to the treatment program, a message pertaining to the failure or the success is communicated via an output component of the smart booklet (e.g., to encourage the adherence to the treatment and/or educational program).

The automated modular pill dispensing device is for selectively dispensing pills of a pill regimen to a patient. The dispensing device includes a base unit having a pill dispensing chute leading to a pill receptacle area. A plurality of stackable pill trays each include a series of pill compartments. The plurality of stackable pill trays each include communication ports for communicatively interfacing with the pill tray communication interface of the base unit and adjacent stackable pill trays above and below. Each stackable pill tray includes an opening in the tray base, aligned with the pill dispensing chute of the base unit, and an actuator configured to selectively advance the series of pill compartments towards the pill hopper in response to the controller so that pills therein will be dispensed, in accordance with the pill regimen, through the pill hopper and via the pill dispensing chute to a pill receptacle positioned at the pill receptacle area.

In embodiments, the system may include an automatic dispensing machine including an automatic medicament dispensing unit and may further include pouch packaging and blister package packaging units. A multi-compartment package for dispensing plural items is disclosed. The package includes plural individual sealed compartment units which are releasably secured to each other. Each compartment unit includes a flanged base from which a chamber depends. The chamber serves to hold an item to be dispensed and is surrounded by a flange. A closure member, in the form of a respective portion of a frangible cover sheet, is adhesively secured to the flange of each compartment unit. Each compartment unit includes at least one foldable tab in a corner of its flange, which can be folded down to enable the closure member to be removed from the compartment unit after the compartment unit is separated from other compartment units of the package.
