A tablet printing device includes a first conveying disk that conveys a tablet while sucking and supporting a side surface of the tablet and an inkjet head capable of applying print processing to the front and back surfaces of the tablet conveyed by the conveying disk. The tablet is conveyed while being supported by a second conveying disk at its front and back surfaces and subjected to inspection of the side surface by a side surface inspection device. The marking step includes a laser printing step of performing laser printing on an edible object E to form a first print pattern P1, and an inkjet printing step of performing inkjet printing on the edible object E after the laser printing step to form a second print pattern P2, and the first print pattern P1 and the second print pattern P2 form a marking pattern P. The second print pattern P2 is formed of a material whose visually recognizable state is changed due to a change in an external environment, and information represented by the marking pattern P is changed due to a change in the visually recognizable state of the second print pattern P2.

A capsule marking device 1 includes: a conveying unit 2 that conveys a capsule C along a conveyance path 2a; a first imaging unit 30 that captures an image of the capsule C being conveyed, to obtain first imaging data; a marking unit 40 that performs marking on the capsule C being conveyed; and a control unit that sets a marking region on the capsule C on the basis of the first imaging data, and forms a marking pattern in the marking region by controlling the operation of the marking unit 40. The capsule marking device 1 further includes a separating unit 60 that selectively separates the capsule C being conveyed from the conveyance path 2a, and the control unit controls the operation of the separating unit 60 to separate the capsule C having a seam with a size equal to or larger than a predetermined reference size in the marking region in the first imaging data without forming a marking pattern.

A laser capsule marking system and method may comprise at least two indexing wheels, a feeding mechanism, a laser marker, a first inspection system, a rejection subsystem, a reject verification sensor, and a collection device. Each pocket is configured to releasably receive a pharmaceutical capsule doped with pigment particles reactive to laser light. The indexing wheels are configured to be incrementally rotated in alternating indexing fashion for transporting discrete arrays of respective pockets through a loading zone, an inspection zone, a marking zone, a reject zone, and an unloading zone. An actuatable reject block may be provided to simultaneously blow a rejected capsule from its pocket, and draw it in for transport to a rejection bin. Each circumferential periphery may be comprised of multiple arcuate shoes removably and replaceably secured to their respective indexing wheel.
