A method of determining whether a patient has taken a dose of medication. The method includes including a first-pass tracer substance with at least one dose of the medication. The first-pass tracer substance is detectable in a body of the patient using a sensor. In addition, the first-pass tracer substance has a short half-life at the site of detection in the body. Further, processing circuitry determines that the patient has taken the dose of medication when the first-pass tracer substance is detected using the sensor at a time after a scheduled medication administration.

A device for cutting a medicine tablet includes a base extending along an axis, a cutting device having a fixed cutter and a movable cutter base, and a carrying plate movably disposed inside the base and having a carrying face for a medicine tablet. The invention relates to a device (1) for packaging at least one unit dose of medicaments in a divided solid pharmaceutical dosage form forming at least one cell for storing and dispensing such a unit dose, each cell comprising: a dish (11) delimiting a volume (15) for storing such a unit dose; a cover (12) adapted to close the storage volume; a partition (13) adapted to be able to extend into the storage volume of the dish and to delimit a plurality of compartments (20) therein for keeping the medicaments of the unit dose separate from one another, characterised in that the partition (13) extending into the dish (11) is able to be removed from the dish (11). A pliers having an upper jaw supporting a cutting blade chamber near the tip of the pliers and fixed crushing protrusions closer to a pivot of the pliers. The cutting blade chamber includes a depressed basin with a slot for receiving and retaining a releasable cutting blade. The arcuate concave cutting edge of the blade is aligned to a pill-holding cavity in the lower jaw of the pliers such that, when the pliers are manually closed, the blade cuts an installed pill in half. The fixed crushing protrusions are mounted on a convex semi-cylindrical shell, and are aligned to pill holding cavities in a concave semi-cylindrical crushing basin in the lower jaw of the pliers such that, when the pliers are manually closed, pills in the cavities are crushed.

This invention is a tablet cutter that uses coiled spring action to ultimately hold the pill in place while being split. The tablet cutter includes a base, a cover pivotally secured to the base, a cutting blade attached to the cover and a tablet spring unit. The tablet spring unit has a coiled spring that presses against a plastic rod with a face-plate attached at the end which is moveable relative to the base and holds the tablet. The tablet spring unit allows a pill to be split when the cover is moved to a closed position.
