Personal prescription dispenser

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for transporting and dispensing medications for a patient according to a medication schedule for the patient. A smart container from a pharmacy is received at the patient's site and the container is checked to make sure that the container was delivered to the correct patient site. The smart container contains a memory device that contains identification information of the patient, dosage and treatment instructions for the patient. This information and the medication were checked for compatibility before the smart container was delivered. The identity of the patient at the patient's site is then checked and the patient performs on or more biometric tests before the medication is dispensed by the smart container. Upon taking the medication and providing video proof thereof, the smart container is returned to the pharmacy.

Connected medication dispensing system

A dispensing system comprising a main body, a carousel, and a shuttle. The carousel is configured to sequentially align each of a plurality of cartridges with a dispensing outlet of the dispensing system. The shuttle is configured to sequentially align each of a plurality of compartments of each cartridge with the dispensing outlet. The dispensing system is configured to dispense a dose only after a predetermined interval of time based on a prescription. In addition, the dispensing system is connected to a network to allow the prescriber to remotely modify the prescription. The dispensing system may additionally have a biometric scanner to verify the identity of a patient, an ID scanner to authorize a pharmacist to refill the dispensing system, and a plurality of tamper sensors to alert the prescriber or the pharmacist if a patient attempts to access the dispensing system without authorization.

The present disclosure enables apparatus and methods for tracking medications and/or product units via smart-packaging concepts. Embodiments include sensors that monitor the state of a blister-card package having an unpatterned lidding film by measuring the impedance of each dispensing region of the lidding film that defines a portion of a blister. In some embodiments, the impedance is measured via a plurality of contact points arranged on opposite sides of each dispensing region, where the contact points are resistively or capacitively coupled with the lidding film. In some embodiments, the impedance map of a measurement region on the blister card is derived via electrical impedance tomography or electrical resistance tomography, where the measurement region includes a plurality of dispensing regions.
