A pharmacist will insert a medicine cartridge into the main housing, locking it in, and will program the CPU to permit a patient to activate dispensing according to a predetermined schedule such that when medication dispensing is permitted, the patient dispensing control component may be activated and the gate mechanism may be activated for dispensing, and when medication dispensing is prohibited, the gate control mechanism cannot be activated. Thus, a patient may then receive the dispenser and activate medication dispensing according to the programmed schedule.
