BATTERY GRID CONTINOUS CASTING SHOE AND MACHINE
A shoe for dispensing molten lead into a mold cavity of rotating dmm to continuously cast a web of a plurality of serially connected grids for lead acid batteries. The shoe may have an elongate orifice slot in a face confronting the drum, a molten lead supply slot opening into an upper recessed portion of the orifice slot and an excess molten lead return slot communicating with the recessed portion downstream of the supply slot.
BATTERY CARBON FIBER ELECTRODE MAKING MACHINE AND METHOD
A machine and process for making a composite battery electrode with a conductive lead cast ribbon extending along and attached to a portion of a carbon fiber material. A lead ribbon may be continuously cast along a longitudinally elongate strip of carbon fiber material. The ribbon may be cast along an edge or edges of a longitudinally elongate strip of carbon fiber material.
Machine for continuous casting of a lead alloy for forming a continuous strip of grids for plates of electric storage batteries
Machine for continuous casting of a lead alloy for forming grids for plates of electric storage batteries, which comprises a rotary drum having an external peripheral surface with a plurality of grooves obtained according to the grid design to be made and a sliding block coupled in sliding relation with the external surface of the rotary drum and with a distribution duct obtained in order to insert the molten lead in the plurality of grooves. The plurality of grooves comprises circumferential notches and transverse notches that meet in respective vertices. At the vertices and within the circumferential notches, a plurality of studs are placed that are intended to shape corresponding corners of smoothed form of the grids.
A DEVICE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF LEAD GRID ELECTRODES FOR LEAD ACID BATTERIES IN A CONTINUOUS CASTING PROCESS
A device for casting electrode grids for producing lead acid batteries in a continuous casting process. The device includes a casting wheel and a casting shoe which rests on an outer circumference of the casting wheel. Liquid lead exiting the casting shoe flows into a concave mold of the casting wheel surface and is removable as a solidified lead strip. The casting shoe is made up of two or more zones, at least a first hot zone with a temperature above the melting point of lead and a second, thermally separated zone with a temperature below the melting point of lead. Cooling the lead strip from two sides (the wheel side and the shoe side) avoids columnar crystal formation and increases the casting speed to 40 meter per minute and above. Thermal isolation of the lead feeding tube avoids re-flowing of lead to a lead pot, reducing PbO formation.
DEVICE FOR CASTING ELECTRODE SUPPORTS FOR LEAD-ACID BATTERIES
A device for casting electrode carriers for the production of lead grid electrodes in a continuous casting process is provided, which includes a casting drum, the surface of which has been engraved with the shape of the lead strip to be cast, and a casting shoe which rests on the outer circumference of the casting drum in the region of the horizontal axis drawn through the axis of rotation when the casting drum rotates counterclockwise, whereat the exiting liquid lead flows into the concave mold of the casting drum surface and is removable as a solidified lead strip at the lower vertex of the casting drum after three quarters of a rotation and whereat draft angles of less than 7 degrees, in particular less than 3 degrees are provided.
APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING THIN METAL STRIP AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THIN METAL STRIP USING THE SAME
A thin metal strip is produced by a single roll strip casting process, using a cooling roll, a tundish, and a molten metal remover. The cooling roll has an outer peripheral surface, on which it cools and solidifies molten metal while rotating. The tundish can accommodate the molten metal and supplies it onto the outer peripheral surface of the cooling roll. The molten metal remover is disposed downstream of the tundish in the rotating direction of the cooling roll with a gap A between the molten metal remover and an outer peripheral surface of the cooling roll, and removes a surface portion of the molten metal on the outer peripheral surface of the cooling roll to cut down the thickness of the molten metal to the width of the gap A.
Battery electrode continuous casting shoe, machine and method
A shoe for dispensing a molten metal such as lead into a mold cavity of a rotating drum to continuously cast a web of a plurality of serially connected grids or battery composite electrodes of a carbon fiber material with a cast metal conductor. The shoe may have at least one elongate orifice slot in a face confronting the drum, a molten metal supply passage communicating with the orifice slot and an excess molten metal return slot opening into the confronting face downstream of the supply slot relative generally to the direction of rotation of the drum.
Battery electrode continuous casting drum, shoe, machine and method
For making battery electrodes, a composite strip of a cast ribbon of an electrically conductive metal attached to and extending along an edge of a web of electrically conductive carbon fiber material, also called a carbon felt in some examples, with a plurality of spaced apart notches cast in the ribbon and opening to an edge of the ribbon spaced from the carbon fiber material. A rotatable drum with a mold cavity and a confronting casting shoe for supplying molten metal, such as liquid lead, to the cavity may be used in a casting machine to continuous cast the composite strip.

The plurality of grooves comprises circumferential notches and transverse notches that meet in respective vertices. At the vertices and within the circumferential notches, a plurality of studs are placed that are intended to shape corresponding corners of smoothed form of the grids.
