The casting of the strand, the passage through the heating unit, and the rolling take place in a continuous process. To be able to produce hot-rolled steel strips in the most energy-efficient way possible and to make these strips available for further processing into high-quality cold-rolled and, if necessary, coated strips, the invention provides that, first of all, a steel melt is produced.

A fully solidified slab of the strand produced using the first casting machine can be hot rolled, and at least one second casting machine, using which a further continuous strand is produced from metal. Between the casting machines, on the one hand, and the rolling stand, on the other hand, a merging unit is arranged, by means of which the slabs can be moved in the direction toward each other in the hot state. The rolling stand is designed as a roll-cladding unit, by which a composite formed from the merged slabs can be hot rolled.

The severing device is between the rough-rolling mill train and the discharging device and cuts up a first sub-portion of the rough-rolled strip into a rough-rolled strip piece. The discharging device discharges the rough-rolled strip piece. The first transporting device connects the severing device to the quenching device and transports the rough-rolled strip piece to the quenching device, which is configured to quench the rough-rolled strip piece.

The total cooling water amount of the sector segment is 1517-2166 L/min.
