Cutting tool and tool holder having separate rear abutment and wedged rear stopper surfaces
A cutting tool includes a holder and a cutting insert releasably clamped in the holder. The holder has a rear pocket surface which includes a pocket abutment surface and an adjacent pocket wedge surface. The cutting insert has at least one abutment surface and an adjacent wedge surface. When the cutting tool is assembled but not in use, the pocket abutment surface of the holder abuts the abutment surface of the cutting insert, and the wedge surface of the holder is facing and spaced apart from the wedge surface of the cutting insert. During cutting operations, the wedge surface of the insert may abut against the wedge surface of the holder.
CUTTING INSERT HAVING GROOVED TOP AND BOTTOM ABUTMENT SURFACES WITH INNER AND OUTER PAIRS OF WEDGE ANGLES, AND CUTTING TOOL
A cutting tool used for turning operations is releasably secured to a tool holder. The cutting insert includes top and bottom insert surfaces, each surface including two pairs of insert wedge surfaces. The tool holder includes an insert pocket having a pocket top surface and a pocket bottom surface. When the cutting tool is assembled, only one of the two pairs of insert wedge surfaces of the insert top surface engages the pocket top surface, and only one of the two pairs of insert wedge surfaces of the insert bottom surface engage the pocket bottom surface.
Cutting insert and cutting tool
A cutting insert and a cutting tool which can suppress lowering of blade-edge positional accuracy while holding by a holder having a small thickness is enabled are provided. The cutting insert includes a first end surface, a second end surface, and a peripheral side surface connected to the first end surface and the second end surface and having a rake face, a flank, and a cutting edge formed in a connection region between the rake face and the flank, and a through hole penetrating the first end surface and the second end surface is formed. It is the cutting insert including a first contact surface substantially perpendicular to a center axis direction of the through hole and capable of contacting the holder, a second contact surface substantially in parallel with the center axis direction of the through hole, substantially perpendicular to a plane including the first contact surface and capable of contacting the holder, and a third contact surface inclined with respect to the center axis direction of the through hole and capable of contacting the holder, and a cutting tool including the cutting insert as above.
HIGH-FEED TURNING TOOL ASSEMBLY
A two-directional high-feed turning tool assembly includes a tool holder, a cutting insert and a clamping element securing the cutting insert to the tool holder. The cutting insert includes an active cutting edge having a centrally located forwardmost edge portion and first and second main edge portions extending rearwardly from the forwardmost edge portion, as well as sideways to an extent further than flank tool sides of the tool holder. The first and second main edge portions also can each have a relatively small immersion angle facilitating high-feed turning in two sideways directions.
METHOD OF CLAMPING A Y-AXIS FEED DIRECTION PARTING BLADE OR CUTTING INSERT AND A HOLDER AND TOOL ASSEMBLY FOR SAME
A method of clamping a first cutting insert or an adaptor to a holder. Either the holder includes two insert pockets configured for machining in two different orthogonal directions or the holder includes a single adaptor pocket configured for holding the adaptor in two different orthogonal directions. The method includes the steps of choosing one of two orthogonal directions for machining and securing either the first cutting insert to an appropriate one of the two pockets or securing the adaptor to the adaptor pocket for machining in the chosen orthogonal direction.
MACHINE TOOL
The invention relates to a machine tool (1) comprising a clamping holder (10) which extends along a longitudinal axis (3) and a cutting element (20) that can be inserted into an open tool-side recess (40), which passes through the clamping holder (10), transversely to the longitudinal axis (3). The machine tool (1) has a stop (30) which is secured in the recess (40) and against which the cutting element (20) rests in the direction transverse to the longitudinal axis (3).
INDEXABLE CUTTING INSERT HAVING TWO CUTTING PORTIONS LOCATED IN DIAGONALLY OPPOSITE QUADRANTS AND TWO LOWER ABUTMENT ELEMENTS, AND CUTTING TOOL THEREFOR
An indexable cutting insert has a central mounting portion and two cutting portions. The central mounting portion has opposing upper and lower surfaces. The lower surface has two abutment elements associated therewith, each abutment element having two diverging abutment surfaces forming two abutment angles. The two cutting portions extend away from the central mounting portion, have distal cutting edges, and are entirely located in diagonally opposite imaginary quadrants of four quadrants defined by two mutually perpendicular quadrant planes. Two abutment bisector planes bisecting the two abutment angles and one of the quadrant planes are parallel or coincident. In a top view, the two cutting portions extend away from the central mounting portion in opposite directions. Two cutting bisector lines parallel to the two directions and bisecting the two cutting edges are mutually offset. A cutting tool has an insert holder and the cutting insert removably retained therein.
CUTTING INSERT HAVING LATERALLY SPACED APART, LONGITUDINALLY EXTENDING WEDGE ABUTMENT SURFACES, TOOL HOLDER AND CUTTING TOOL
A cutting tool used for grooving and turning operations where a cutting insert is releasably securable in a tool holder. The cutting insert includes insert upper and lower surfaces, at least one of which includes an insert engagement arrangement having two converging insert engagement wedge surfaces. The tool holder includes an insert receiving slot having a clamping jaw surface and a base jaw lower surface, at least one of which includes a slot engagement arrangement having two converging slot engagement wedge surfaces. When assembled, the cutting insert is releasably clamped in the insert receiving slot. The at least one insert engagement arrangement abuts the at least one slot engagement arrangement only at the insert engagement wedge surfaces and the slot engagement wedge surfaces.
Method for turning a workpiece with a tool system
A tool system for machining includes a tool body that has a first end for connecting to a machine tool and a second end having an end face on which a seat for an interchangeable cutting insert is formed. The cutting insert has an underside formed as an abutment surface, a top side formed as a rake face, and an encircling side face formed as a flank, and a cutting edge is formed at a transition from the top side to the encircling side face. The cutting insert is arranged on the seat such that the top side extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the tool body and the cutting edge protrudes beyond the outer circumference of the end face of the tool body in a radial direction with respect to the longitudinal axis with two usable cutting corners and cutting-corner portions adjoining the latter on both sides.
