FECAL MATTER FOR TREATMENT OF CACHEXIA
The use of allogenic fecal matter for the treatment of cachexia and/or cancer, wherein the allogenic fecal matter is obtained from at least one donor subject, wherein the at least one donor subject has a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 30 kg/m2, a HOMA-IR value below 2.5 mg/dL and/or an age below 60 years. Fecal matter from the at least one donor subject may be used to treat cancer and/or related conditions.
LARGE INTESTINE CONTENTS' DIAGNOSIS AND ACOUSTIC CHARACTERIZATION
Systems, kits and methods are provided, which analyze the large intestine content and utilize acoustic signals detected during delivery of water into the large intestine and drained large intestine contents to derive large intestine characteristics such as microbiotal analysis. Systems may include a water delivery unit including a water supply and a nozzle connected thereto, configured to introduce water controllably into a patient's large intestine, and an analysis unit that provides information about the drained contents using optical examination or biological assays. The information may be related to acoustic analysis of signals from acoustic sensors that are attachable to a patient's abdomen. A variety of sensor configurations, positioning options, analysis strategies and large intestine characteristics are presented.
BACTERIA DONORS AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS
Provided are methods for determining the health status of subject considered as a potential intestinal microflora donor, and to compositions including bacteria obtained from healthy subjects. Further provided are methods of identifying individuals of exceptional health suitable to be donors of bacteria of the intestinal microflora, and methods for producing reproducibly effective probiotic compositions, and probiotic compositions derived from such bacteria.
BACTERIUM OF THE CHRISTENSENELLACEAE FAMILY IN THE PREVENTION AND/OR TREATMENT OF HYPERTRIGLYCERIDEMIA
The invention relates to a bacterium of the Christensenellaceae family or of a composition containing same for use in the prevention and/or treatment of hypertriglyceridemia in humans or animals.
C. NOVYI FOR THE TREATMENT OF SOLID TUMORS IN HUMANS
The present invention provides, inter alia, methods for treating or ameliorating an effect of a solid tumor present in a human. These methods include administering intratumorally to the human a unit dose of C. novyi, preferably C. novyi NT, colony forming units (CFUs), which contains about 1×10.sup.3-1×10.sup.7 CFUs suspended in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or solution. Methods for debulking a solid tumor present in a human, methods for ablating a solid tumor present in a human, a method for microscopically precise excision of tumor cells in a human, methods for treating or ameliorating an effect of a solid tumor that has metastasized to one or more sites in a human, unit doses of C. novyi, preferably C. novyi NT, CFUs, and kits for treating or ameliorating an effect of a solid tumor present in a human are also provided.
COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING BACTERIAL STRAINS
The invention provides compositions comprising bacterial strains for treating and preventing inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
Systems and methods for growing a biofilm of probiotic bacteria on solid particles for colonization of bacteria in the gut
The present invention provides a method, wherein the method forms a biofilm, wherein the biofilm comprises a population of at least one bacterial strain attached to particles, wherein the biofilm is configured to colonize a gut of a subject in need thereof for at least five days, when ingested by the subject, the method comprising: a. obtaining a population comprising at least one strain of bacteria; b. inoculating a growth medium containing particles with the population comprising at least one strain of bacteria; c. incubating the particles with the population comprising at least one bacterial strain for a time sufficient for the population of at least one strain of bacteria to attach to the particles; and d. culturing the population comprising at least one strain of bacteria attached to the particles in a growth medium, for a time sufficient to form a biofilm.
Compositions and Methods for Treating Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs) and Other Disorders
The present disclosure is in the field of pharmaceutical compositions suitable for the treatment of diseases in mammals. This application provides novel compositions and methods for treating various disorders or conditions that are associated with a dysfunctional intestinal microbiota. In particular, this application provides compositions and methods that can treat or cure gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including, for example, Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis.
Method and System for Treating Cancer and Other Age-Related Diseases by Extending the Healthspan of a Human
Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to the field of Oncology, and in particular, embodiments directed to a method of ameliorating, treating, or preventing a malignancy in a human subject wherein the steps of the method assist or boost the immune system in eradicating cancerous cells. Certain embodiments are directed to the field of human longevity and aging in a manner such that cancer is not contracted due to ameliorating, treating, or reducing aging by increasing the healthspan and lifespan of humans. In certain embodiments, administration of beneficial bacteria to an individual's microbiome that have been modified so as to produce effective amounts of desired compositions, compounds, agents, e.g. tomatidine, rapamycin, p53 protein, statins, etc., is employed to treat and prevent cancer and other age-related diseases.
ANTHELMINTIC PROBIOTIC COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS
Compositions and methods for treating or reducing the severity or likelihood of occurrence of a parasitic worm or helminth infection in a subject are described. The methods include administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a recombinant bacterium expressing a crystal protein such as a Bacillus thuringiensis crystal protein (Cry). The crystal proteins may be full length, truncated, variant, or sub-variant Cry proteins. Examples of crystal proteins include Cry5B, Cry21, Cry14A, Cry6A, and Cry13A. The recombinant bacterium may be, for example, a Bacillus subtilis or other Gram-positive bacterium, for instance, a lactic acid fermenting bacterium such as Lactococcus or Lactobacillus. Related compositions and recombinant microorganisms are also described.
